Using Crucial/Micron usually means you're up and running without thinking much about it, but other brands can/do work... if you get any sampler issues, good chance its your RAM, just keep that in the back of your mind, you should be okay.

About 1-2 minutes... it takes at least 30 seconds for my Waldorf Q (3 DSPs) to powerup...

I don't know what you're trying to do if you have 'terrible midi timing' - syncing something or just playing the synths via midi? There are many posts here on the Z about midi timing, try a search, I've given lists of things to try for various problems in the past. We need a lot more specific info a...

I think faster graphics would be really nice... OpenGL accelerated would be really, really nice.

Then I can have an excuse to buy a fast Geforce4 or something besides just to run MilkDrop for Winamp

I wouldn't suggest anyone to buy any DSPdev devices (or whatever they are called now) without first giving a good listen to other devices on the platform... don't even "look" at them, as the DSPdev devices, at first look very nice (it seems big money went into the graphics for the reverb.....

I would go for the ASUS P4T533-C board with standard RDRAM (maybe even PC1066 RDRAM), with a 533mhz FSB processor - the 2.26Ghz isn't much more expensive than the 2.0Ghz CPU... This board is very nice, doesn't have a lot of onboard devices that will ruin your fun. If you're going for a P4 with DDR, ...

The Gigabyte board has been winning a lot of awards, but for our use, it really is not a better board than something without all that onboard stuff that is basically sitting on the PCI bus... it's much better to have things like USB(1.1, and 2), and iDE not sharing the limited PCI time. A board with...

Yes, be sure you install the latest Intel .INF files (drivers for your i815 chipset: IDE/AGP etc). I've posted the link here on the Z before (search) or you can navigate through intel.com and find them. Do this before you install any software, and right after you finish installing Windows for best r...

I'd say work at 44.1 and do a 'high quality SRC' - you could do this a few times during the project to be sure you know how it sounds at the lower rate, and still have a high quality 44.1 version if there is ever an "XBOX 7" version down the road

Fans are (generally/usually) louder than a water cooling rig and are limited by the ambient temperature (ie: they cant pull in cool air if the ambient temperature isn't itself cool). The thing with watercooling is there is always the chance for condensation (or leaks), paticularly if you're using a ...

The DDR on the new G4's really utilized as the G4 processor is still stuck on the rather dated single-data-rate 133 bus. But luckily, if you're looking at the low end model, you're not really paying any more for the DDR either... and compared to two weeks ago, you're getting a second processor "...

Depends on your motherboard ... good ones, you will almost never see this.

Also if you don't have chipset drivers properly installed for your motherboard, you may see this, be sure you have the right chipset/ide/agp drivers installed (this is usually one bundle of drivers).

Well use whatever works. I know for a fact that Intel is the most stable of all, since they have much more rigorous verification and testing methods, which also comes out in price. For many people (especially gamers), even a VIA is perfect and they never noticed a problem.

Pulsar2 Zlink has 2xZlink ports (2 ports, one port does 8 channels@upto 96khz both in/out), and 1xadat port (in, and out).

Yes, it has 8 more channels than the Classic I/o plate.

MIDI as clock sync always has issues it seems - I see this exact thing mentioned on the Waldorf list all the time. I will usually set the BPM manually myself in the CW environment, and record the MIDI data, you can then use tools in your sequencer to adjust it slightly. There are so many possible th...

ADAT will sound different due to clock jitter (especially if you were slaving your system, to eg: a DAT player or a preamp or cheaper FX box). The Zlink, while also being 96khz capable, carries the clock better in a CW system - at least, this is what my ears tell me.

It's cables. And if you push the DSP over the limit or do something that causes an error, you will need to resync the DSPs by toggling master/slave... You also need to do this if you lose your master clock - ie: turn off a SPDIF device that is master, or turn it on after you've started your project,...
