I am looking for a way to bring the hi-z output of my guitar up to line level so i can plug in directly to a mixer or the line level inputs on the Pulsar. I want something that I can run on a 9volt battery - and ideally something that I could actually retro fit and wire up directly inside my guitar. Any ideas?

yes there are MANY preamps that run 9vlts and can be installed in your guitar.(active electronics were kinda about that....)

if it's for the studio,i would(and do) use a nice mic pre that had a 1/4" high impeadance input.(my manley!mmmmmmmmmm)much nicer.....

What about an active DI box?

I would like to use something that would get the signal up to line level input. A direct box outputs at microphone level, right?

Should have both types of outputs.That's what they're design for,to create line level out of Hi-Z input.

no,a d/i will not usually have a preamp in it....(yes,it outputs mic level.to get line level out of it,line level must go into it...)

I know mine does. Guitar -> DI box -> Powersampler input. It outputs line level.

The manual says it is designed to work with a microphone in on a mixer. Are you using the gain controls on the SFP mixer to bring the signal up at all (I don't know why I didn't think of that before)?

no, I just plug the guitar in, plug the output of the DI into my powersampler and then trough Celmo's Guitar Amp. It gives enough volume without using any gain boost.

I think you're confusing condenser mic line level to dynamic.DI output is line level category.

the gam is the preamp in this instance.if you used a preamp in front of the cw card input,your good sound would be better.that di outputs mic level.

From my understanding, pluging in an input source with an impedence that is not designed for a particular input (e.g., plugging a hi-z signal into a lo-z input - or a lo-z signal into a line level input) can have a major affect on your signal, cutting frequencies, etc. So, plugging a microphone level impedence directly into the Pulsar's input, which is designed for line level signal, is not a good idea. Is this correct? Anyone know more details about how impedence works?

Hi-Z should never go to low-Z.

I can also use it without the GAM and the level is still fine. Doesn't quite make it to 0dB but about -3dB isn't a problem. So there must be some sort of amplification going on.
It also has a -20dB attenuation switch on front, maybe this is for when you want mic level?

sure,there's some gain in the mixer.a preamp will work better still......
