I have two cards in my XP system with MIDI In/Outs on both - apps can see all CreamWare MIDI Ports but none let me select CreamWare MIDI In/Out 2.

What's interesting is all the ports do work happily in SFP - with contollers of all sorts etc..., only the native apps are having problems seeing and/or communicating through CreamWare MIDI In/Out 2; CreamWare MIDI In/Out 2 is either not seen, or if "available", when selected gives "There is no driver installed on your system" (In the case of C-MEXX OV1 Console) or shows up in Sonar 2.2 but when selected as an available MIDI Port will not hold in the drop down list - it comes back un-selected.

Granted I could kludge this "more an inconvenience" problem with a midi splitter in front of Port 1 and internal SFP midi routing- but hey, I am after the full functionality and the elegance... but I'm fairly baffled and dogged by the situation, and any help would be appreciated.

Just to make sure(maybe you knew already): Creamware midi IN/OUT has nothing to do with actual cards. It's a software midi port. In SFP you see those as 'Sequencer midi source' and 'sequenecer midi dest'
Actual midi out ports are 'Luna midi dest' and 'Pulsar midi dest'.

You should have these available in SFP. Also, you should have (at least) two of those software midi ports. Finally, goto Computer management -> Device manager -> Sound, video and game controllers and right click you card -> Properties -> Settings and under MIDI setup set 'Number of devices' to greater than 1

Oh, oh just remembered you had two cards... I'm not sure if this procedre is still valid, but maybe you can try.
And another thing, SFP may not let add those sequencer midi sources unless you have done this 'Device manager' thing first.

And an addition, if you use logic, goto win.ini file and search for [Logic]. Under it you can see something like:
MidiIn_CreamWare_MIDI_In_Out_1=1
MidiIn_CreamWare_MIDI_In_Out_2=0
MidiOut_Microsoft_GS_Wavetable_SW_Synth=0
MidiOut_CreamWare_MIDI_In_Out_1=7
MidiOut_CreamWare_MIDI_In_Out_2=0

Make sure you have '1' for both inputs and '7'(?) for both outputs. Anybody knows what does this '7' mean???

Thanks, got all the MIDI ports working. If I could only get XTC working with Cubase SX - even after reading all the posts I'm still stymied. None of my Pulsar stuff is insertable although it shows up albet unchecked in Cubase SX. Have spent many hours on this and just about ready to give up.

Did you read the manual on XTC? It works a little different than SFP mode. For example, you have to close SFP.
Be sure to read the manual, and sure feel free to return with more specific problems...

It turned out to be my PC was configured for ACPI - an XTC no-no. I ripped the whole thing apart and rebuilt it Standard PC with major attention to IRQ and DMA tweaking. Never sounded better - I'm in XTC too!
