Antares AutoTune has a great feature: it is able to read the pitch to apply to an audio file from a midi file in real time. Yesterday I was editing some vocals in Cubase SX and wanted to use this feature. I created a midi file that plays exactly the vocals tune. In the inspector I routed this file to Creamware Midi Out. My SFP project file had sequencer out connected to sequencer in and not connected midi IOs. I inserted Autotune into the SX audio channel with the vocals and adviced it to read midi from Creamware Midi In. However, Autotune says that it can't initialize this midi input. Any ideas?

Me again. To make it less complicated, my question is basically this: is it possible to send an SX midi file internally back to SX using SFP and how can this be done?

Hello Gonzoft!
I have done this (with another plug-in) many times. It is not a matter how you connect things in the SFP, it makes no difference. The routing is done in SX. I cant remember now how exactly... I ll check it with my DAW in 30min and be back to tell ya!

okay... I was doing it with the Steinberg Voice-Machine, which behaves a bit different than Autotune but it is still possible.
Load Autotune on your audio track and choose "Target notes via MIDI". Choose for example the CW Midi In/Out Port 2, channel 1. This is where Autotune now 'listens' expecting for MIDI notes to arrive.
Add a MIDI track with the melody of the voice. Choose on the left out:CW Midi In/Out Port 2, channel 1. The Midi data now is sent to the CW Midi 2 out port on channel 1.
Now, go in SFP and connect the Sequencer Midi Source 2 Module to the Sequencer Midi Dest Module.
All done! ...BTW, r u happy with the performance of Autotune? I know that it is the industry standard, but to me it sounds either as if it is not correcting anything or as if it turns everybody into a Cher. Dont know, never liked it...I have heard of a program called Melodyne which does wonders!
Hope I ve helped!

Hey, rodos1979. Thanks for answering. I guess there's something wrong with my midi setup, cause is still doesn't work. Perhaps it's this funny midi port filter in the Cubse SX folder. Gonna check tomorrow.
Yes, I am quite happy with Autotune. I managed to do the midi file thing with the gameport midi IOs and it's really brill. You can decide when, if and how fast it corrects the pitch by editing the midi file. Sounds very natural if you do it carfully. It's like the graphic mode, but not so much work to set it up. Automatic mode is not so good, I agree.
Cheers.
