This one tries to be vocal tune. It's a mixture of 80's pop (pickup 8ths) and whatever it is I've learned from trance.

The strings sounds that are particular to trance these days is really hard to achieve... I was guessing it was the sound of a couple of detuned saw waves.. I think I'm wrong. I'm trying to get the sound from Trance Energy X-mix 2003, by DJ Tiesto. (The main arpeggiating element in the main passage) The sound's used all over the place.. I've heard it as a preset for Access Virus.. Anyone know how it's done? I'm especially having trouble getting that high end "shimmer" on the strings that the trance people always use. Couldn't get it with EQ. Is it that "rectify" effect? (not very familiar with it)

Same getup as before.
Triton for pad-key sound,
eds + a few triton sounds for drums
Hummel blue for everything else.

This is one of those tunes where I couldn't use multicomp for finalizing because it ruins the mix. I really like the mix as it is right now.

Hi Kens,
Hope this isn't too obvious - but have you tried a couple of "UKnow" synths to get that string sound you're after - and just play with the built-in chorus effects?
I seem to recall "That String Sound" along with several "Hoover" sounds are made on the Roland Juno. If you have already tried this and you're still really deperate for "that sound", then maybe take a look at Pro Samples vol 38 Trance.

Anyway - I think I've come close to getting the sound you're talking about using a couple of Uknows (or the saturn - can't remember) with different chorus effects for width and one running thru an "exciter" effect to get the sizzle. I also tend to have a fair bit of tempo delay on the arpegiated synth lines.
