So far, I think I've achieved some of the key features of the "euro dance" style. I still need more modulation, and also better harmonic structure. (so it's more melody, than just a bunch of chords) What do you think?

Also, how do you use arpeggios and chord stabbs? Right now, I'm mainly sticking to chord stabbs.. how's that in a "euro dance" sense?

Is it just me or is the bass drum distorting the hell out of everyone else's speakers?

Ken, you make me think of myself with all these different styles you compose in. Ain't hilarious to be able to incorporate all these styles in your library?

heh, I think I overdid the beefing up. Didn't do a headphone check so it could be clipped. Or well, just checked on the earphones. It's quite clipped. hehe.

All the styles.. I guess that's what I excel in. Learning the different symbols that define a style. I think that's what I enjoy the most. Taking a tune apart and checking out its details. After I've done that, it's most natural that I write something using that knowledge. Strange thing though.. we're on the other side of the planet and are quite a few years apart, but somehow we do have very similar ears.

Anyway, any hardcore euro-dance people willing to comment?

that's right, you need a melodic melody on top of the chords, but you're far better in format structures than I am, so I leave this to you and others.

One thing tho:
the groove made by kick and bass synth needs some tweaking tho it's almost there.

There must be a delicat balance between the two to let the thing roll.
Try experimenting with volume (nice already), sound (could be better) and specially the sustain and/or release time of the envelopes of them.

They must seamless glue to each other, it must sound like *one* thing, it must be hard to distinguish between the two, or at least they must work together as one machine.
Mute other instruments and try to get the max out of it.
Both must sound as links of one chain.
If you get that unresistable pumpin' oeh-ahh, rolling through the cords, you can do almost everything you want with the tune.

Try to keep everything simple, eurodance is mostly music for very young starting music lovers, even often for children.
The melodic lines must be open and easy to distinguish.

btw, analog gain distortion on the kick is good, the pumpin' effect will profit from it.

wow! that's something I haven't noticed. "kick and bass must work as one". I'll note that. And about the melody line, I'll see if I can simplify the structure.. what do you think about having a "chord" backing, at the same time with the melody line? Or, should the melody line work to show the chord structure? (without the chord stabbs)

I think chord backing will function very well, but the melody line must sound very well defined and virile.
Your string sound (on your new stringmachine, yes? ) is too week and vague to pull the car, but it could be nice to color a phat pad chord sound by doubling the chords, as an alternative to the classical strings behind it.

But I must say I feel unsure about this subject, as I said before.
I'm not good in formats and chord thinking, it's just that it doesn't sound streight, directly and powerfull enough, too me at least.
But may be you invent a new style, who am I.
But the potention is there, for sure.

I'll see if I can check a friend of mine who's good in this particular thing.
He knows exactly the elements with which Eurodance is build, and he speaks in your language in terms of pads, leads, etc.
May be tomorrow evening I have more.

ps. that Keily Minoge number one monster hit, forgot the name, shows very good the perfect pumping of the kick and bass, also the song is perfectly clear in what you hear and how it's constructed.
Is that the type of music you're looking for?

Or is it more the old Two Unlimited (No Limits), or things like Charly Lownoise and what's-the-name-of-the-other?
It could also be you're looking for a real hardcore gabberlike style, but then forget about chord thinking and pronounced melody lines, coz that's all about NRG and sound.

I had to edit K Minoge's hitsong for a fashion show between other popular songs.
I felt big respect for that song, everything in it is perfect, including the sound.

I think it's more k minogue style I'm looking for. The really melodic type of trance tunes. And also some elements from the likes of DJ Tiesto. (a bit classical and "big" sounding) I'll be looking forward to hearing from your friend then. This is a nice learning experience. To hear from the "inside" people.

I'll also try to do another tune with just pulsar synths. The sounds aren't quite right in this tune, so I'll see if using VA will make it sound better.
