an idea i had for some time... and now that i'm just relaxing after work, it came up again. when browsing, i usually play some random tracks from the mp3 player, and these are 80% planet Z tunes. the rest are live sets created with ableton Live.
this means over 18 hours of music!!! all tunes i don't mind listening to for various reasons: beauty, musicianship, humour, coolness, happiness, any track that one way or the other catches my attention.
however, most of this music, i would not buy if i came across this piece in a music store, not knowing the artist.

so, for times when i really need good music for me, myself and i, total subjective and unique being at that time (just not to offend anyone  ), i copied the real goodies to a seperate folder. stll this allmost three hours worth of excellent music. when recently, a friend sharing my musical taste asked me for results coming from creamware stuff, i wanted to make a top 10 of my favorite Z tracks. i didn't succeed... i came to 14 tracks and couldn't bring myself to eliminate four others. instead i today added a 15th track, which was uploaded recently.

for some background: i mainly listen to electro/idm [autechre/speedy j/passarani/while/mike dred], (acid)techno [surgeon/joey beltram/dj rush/jeff mills], lo fi and emo guitar music [mogwai, tortoise, sonic youth, but also pink floyd, motorpsycho, prong or primus]. so, in no particular order, my personal top 15:

1=0/dlm
a sweet, electronic, minimal track. raw but beautiful.

algorhythm/faelmaz refege
excellent electronic mayhem. exciting!

starchaser project/passing pluto
for me the best part of the trilogy. great sounds, a deep mood, very suggestive. very pro stuff.

gedas/sad & sweet
sad & sweet indeed. luxuriously layered track. with enchanting vocals, trip hop feel, guitars in the right places, driving groove,... a hit single

j9k/slohofro
just how i like it! mean, crunchy, danceable in a funny kinda way. playing with fx and turning knobs can be so much fun... if you can get into the groove.

john cooper/might
not to kiss anyone's lower back, but this is truely a nice post rock song. could be tortoise or june of '44. anyone noticed those awsome background noises in the beginning? very tasty.

legros/oneinamillion
i don't like reggae. in fact, i can't stand it, except for bob marley and 'doe maar' (dutch reggae/ska, popular in the 80's), but this track is... i don't know, it touched me from the start. is it the powerful super vocals, or the airy guitars. the overall emotion? i think it's cute & funny.

petal/powersearch #1
this is no background music! listen with headphones or on a good system, and close your eyes. adequately flavoured with fx, minimal techno'ish. and all this with the aid of a soundblaster

samplaire/??? track 02
evolving from a space groove into rolling d'n'b and back. carefully placed percussion, cool breaks,..., good work.

sandrob and his bunch/oganj
strange, crazy like hell, but i love it. the male choir, the pink floyd chord, the overall instrumentation. it's fantastically weird. very good for dancing.

thalamus/coming home
radio ready trip hop by the talented mr laux. breath taking vocals, big beat, thick pads... pro stuff
http://www.planetz.com/forums/viewtopic ... 6&forum=17

paulrmartin/biochip
makes christopher young's score for hellraiser sound like a pop song. scary and marvelous.

atomic/wavehunting
refreshing illectro. me likes parties where you can pop the body to this kind of tunes. a steady beat and lots of noises flying around so your feet can keep up with the face, while the rest just flaps around.

legros & marcuspocus/ykpet
another fabulous Z conspiracy. these two men have uploaded some pretty serious s**t the last few weeks. this being they're best i think (but only because 'snake' has that horrible kick). just have a listen: off this world d'n'b.

last but certainly not least, in fact my absolute number one, without any competition. sorry guys, i know it's not a sport, but this one beats the lot:

mister swim/tapdances
intense beauty. i say no more...

I share Mr Swim's comments too. I'm extremely flattered that "Pluto" is on your list. Thanks.
I couldn't even begin to come up with a top 15 from the music on this site because there is such a wealth of styles and talent about.
Perhaps one day I might have a go though.
