Hye !

i'm asking myself if it is possible to use the two virtual midi ports of pulsar/luna to use my sequencer (CAKEWALK) as to sequence REASON ?
i saw things about Hubi loopback but isn't it possible to do the same thing without it, just using the puslsar routing capability ?
Thanks by advance

yep, do u can do it in pulsar- just load up 2 or more sequencer sources and destinations. that is it. works for me with four in cubase, it seems REASONable that it would work elsewhere  damn i'm corny . . .

Thanks !
but i think when i do that, there is a error message saying that a such device is already loaded no ? (i 'm at work so no pulsar here and i don't exactly remember...)
well, maybe i've drunk the day i did the try, i'll try it again this evening !!!

Yes, can assure you this work.

I'm using 4 midi sequencer in/out.
One for STS3000
2nd for BigMixer (as it take all 16chanels)
3rd for and external softsynth (SimSynth 2.7)
4th for all the pulsar synth (1 per chanel)

In pulsar u specify the number of virtual sequenser ins and outs in the device manager... if it says that it is already loaded then it is! if u try to insert more than these specified on the device manager then it prompts u to add them automaticaly.

Nice fra77x

Just to make it even more clear, WinKey+Pause (Device Manager) > Sound, video and game controllers > Pulsar (or Luna) > Properties > Settings Tab. Here you can specify the number of WAVE devices, as well as the number of Virtual MIDI ports.

You can actually have lots of WAVE drivers loaded inside Pulsar/Luna, and load a bunch of different audio programs, and assign each to their own WAVE driver (each program has a different place to setup which output to use, usually "Audio Preferences" or similiar), all FREELY routable in the Creamware environment to any hardware output or to a mixer... I'm not sure I know of too many other products that can do that

Thank u all !
but my problem may be in cakewalk!
Wait and see

i agree subhuman! i use 8 outs when i track in Acid, and then i can route seperate channels thru pulsar fx and out to my digital mixer. try that with another 'soundcard.' . . .

Well...
i can't do what i want !
but maybe it's a midi/cakewalk problem ?
In fact, i don't know if what i want to do is possible so here it is:
play a sequence in cakewalk where several tracks are routed to a midi port and these tracks play instruments in REASON !
Actually, i don't know what midi out i must specify (is it pulsar midi 1 or 2 out) ?
which midi in must i specify in Reason (pulsar mid in 1 ?) and what module should i connect into my pulsar project ?
many many many thanks by advance if someone has already experimented this thing (especially with Cakewalk !)

Hi Leida!

Try this setup (from the top of my head):
MIDI 1 out -> MIDI 2 in
MIDI 1 in <- MIDI 2 out

Where:
Pulsar MIDI 1 = Cakewalk or any other sequencer
Pulsar MIDI 2 = Reason

Make sure you have selected the 'Pulsar MIDI OUT 2' port in Cakewalk (track view) whilst trying to access the Reason.

Works exactly the same for Pulsar synths.

thansk !
but i think about another thing: when i use the pulsar2 midi A source for example, i can't work with only cakewalk and a pulsar synth !! i have to use a device called pulsar midi source (maybe older ?).
i don't know if it likn to my first problem, but may be ?
however, thansk again !

ok leida - i think you are missing a subtle, yet important difference. the "midi source" and "midi dest" mods come from your hardware folder, and correspond to the physical hardware ports on your pulsar. the "sequencer midi source" and "sequencer mid dest" modules are in your driver folder (windows devices on pc). these latter two are your midi drivers. let us suppose that you wanted to play your midi keyboard, record it in cakewalk, and route that midi track to reason to play the synth.

this would be the routing for that:
midi source (your keyboard)>
sequencer midi dest 1(to cakewalk, you must enable midi thru)>
sequencer midi source 1 (from cakewalk)>
sequencer midi source 2 (to reason)

you must activate midi port 1 in cakewalk and midi port 2 in reason.

admitedly, i have neither of these proggies, but that is how i think you would do it.

ok !
but must i connect (so insert in my project) the midi dest 2 for exemple ?
when i try to insert another midi dest, the program say that there is already a such device loaded !
In the Reason doc, they say that you need to use hubi loopback to use reason with an sequencer on the same computer but i was just thinking thtat the pulsar system was able to do it without hubi !!!

try loading several. it sounds like you need to follow subhuman's suggestion and check your windoze midi settings.

Yes , i have checked it : i have two midi ports activated !
still searching !!!

maybe u have to deactivate on the first application u run the second sequenser output so to be available to the other.. or try to run first the application which use the second ouput...

Ok !
everything is ok now !
effectectively, i was making a mistake between the midi physical ports and the sequencers virtual routing ports !
Thanks u all for help me !

uhm...does it also work with soundiver?
i did not test it yet.
I remember getting a midi port in use if cubase was already open.
could someone then tell me what modules to connect?
I only have a pulsar 1.
