New User with Powerpulsar.

2.1Ghz Athlon PC, Nforce Mboard, 512MB, Windows XP ( heavily tweaked) Logic 5.2, SFP 3.1c, stenberg midex 8 USB midi interface.

After 4 days of crashing, searching, reading and battling to get stability I have finally managed to get a stable platform - after finally reverting to Standard PC Mode that is!.( non APCI mode)

However, horror of horrors I have somwhere along the way managed to destroy the listing in my Windows XP "Sound and Audio Devices" Control panel with the net effect that all enteries are gone, and no listings are present, everything is just greyed out with the words No Audio Devices/no midi playback devices in the appropriate boxes.

Hence, I now have no longer got any midi devices in Logic to choose from. (yet as mentioned can playback perfectly previous vsti or audio content)

I have no conflicts in the device mangager of any kind, logic works fine, runs through sfp perfectly (at last!).

Have searched and searched and hope very much someone out there can help me...

I'm so very close to being able to enjoy this kit - any help would be most appreciated- the thought of zero'ing this kit and losing another day is going to make me burst!!

have you tried to update your "scope driver" in device manager?
if not, find your card in device manager and under properties choose "update driver".
don't let windows search for it, do it manually by always choosing the "lower" alternatives in the dialog box that appears.
the driver should be found under SFPDriverWin2k.

Thanks, I've tried that..it appears to be a well kept flaw in Windows XP that can't be solved unless you zero the disk..It is as you say driver related, something to do with XP not allowing a full driver replacement and substituting it's own variant dll's in place of others..
There are people on the web who've been batlling with this mayhem for months...

Right now I feel like saying stuff it and going to buy a mac...

uninstall SFP, uninstall your scope board from the device manager, restart, in the dialog boxes that follows manually point windows to the Win2k folder, restart, install SFP.

that SHOULD do it!

So, I've had it with PC..I'm getting a mac tommorrow. G4 Dual processor (which I don't think even supports Creamware in OS X yet - does it ?) , however, I'm fed up of spending endless man days tweaking the damn thing. I'm doing a full soak test in the shop and if it runs more thank 50 audio tracks simultaneously I'm buying it - end of dilemma!

Logic 6 here I come!!..wooohoo!!!that's been a sour grape for too long now!

I look at the creamware PC card debacle like this...Why drive a ferrari on a dirt track!!

Anyway, thanks for the tea and sympathy ( and my old Pc chums please don't take offense I love 'em but I'm losing sleep over this stuff..sneaky old Steve jobs huh!!!)..

For the Sake of those who experience the same problem somewhere down the line the fix was finally this..

1: Uninstall the SFP software.
2: uninstall the device driver ( from device manager)
3: Shutdown the PC normally.
4: Remove the CW card and place it in another PCI slot.
5: Reboot and following the windows "found new hardware" manually choose to install Win2k Driver located in the SFP 3.1c Folder.
6: Reboot and install the SFP 3.1c software.

This is evidently an issue relating to Windows XP service Pack 1.

not perfect, but no doubts about slot strategies, no Aspi thingies, no hardware conflicts (basicly), no supply items, and soon Creamware support for OS-X.
Beautifull, but a bit noisy.

Thanks, got the mac. And your right it is a beautiful thing. Mac OS X is stunning.

Installed logic, core audio and midi set themselves up with my i/o h/w , fantastic performance - it just ran perfectly.

checked it with 60 audio tracks, 20 plugins and about 5 vsynths and it didn't had barely even began to register on the system performance display in logic.

Not a glitch in sight!..amazing.

Speaking as someone whose been a long time lover of PC's I must admit it took about 60 mins to be a total convert. If there are any logic lovers still on Pc in any doubt of making the transition - don't be !!
