i've persuaded a friend of mine to buy a rather simple daw of his own, pc + delta audiophile.
we make radio commercials together on our free time and this way with dsl and all we don't even have to meet to work together.
i took upon myself to order the computer for him, now this was BEFORE i even heard of via chipsets and the evil they bring, we made a good deal on a p4 2.2 ghz 512 ram and thought we were a go!

örjan (that's my friend's name) got 2 kids, one is 2 years, one 7 months and a full time day job so you can imagine how much time he has to sit, i mean really sit down and tune his computer. that means that i have to do it, which i don't mind since i feel like i'm the one who put him in this mess.
NOW the ONLY solution via support has is "install our latest super-turbo-digital-comes in several colors 4-1 driver". always! it doesn't matter what you ask, how you ask it.... "4-1 driver".

if you're on VIA and it works, great!
if you've got a friend with not too much money or time on his hands and you talked him into bying a €1300 problem source and have a bad consience about it.
well we have something in common.

The problems with VIA chipsets (my first PC had the worst of them all = apollo133) is, that they are not very precise with PCI-performance. Therefor especially eith CW cards, you can get problems with clicking sounds comming out of nowhere. However, some people report good results with newer VIA chipsets. His kind of working might not be so demanding on the PCI-performance. In that chase, it would probably work out fine. I hope, I didn't forget anything.
