Hello all,

I've recently installed CubaseSX 1.01 and Reason 2.0 on my machine, both of them function properly when they 'fly solo'.

My goal is to use Reason2 as a sound module, by controlling it via CubaseSX.

My loading sequence goes like this:
SFP >> CubaseSX >> Reason2

...But when I load Reason2, I instantly recieve an error message saying "The midi inputs are unavailable, they might be used by a different program" (not an exact quote, but you get the idea).

The SPF project contains 2 SEQ source/dest' devices, but both of them can't be selected as reason inputs. They appear on screen, but can't be accessed (the famous red X).

The Rewire seems to work well, but that's Audio, not MIDI...

How can this be solved?

Thanks,
ds-sound

first, create a third seq source+dest in sfp, route

seq2 src -> seq3 dest
seq3 src -> seq2 dest

Then, in Cubase SX, you gotta disable the seq3 completely... I don't know cubase to tell you how, but it is doable, for sure...

Then route anything you want to send to reason from cubase using seq2, but i reason configure the midi port to be seq3

That's it, and it work with any software, like cubase, fruity, Reason, etc...

thanks Marcuspocus, i was wondering about that too. Maybe this would be a good thread to move to tips and tricks?

Rebirth has to be routed via MIDI drivers. It has Rewire version 1, audio only. Reason supports Rewire2 supports audio and MIDI. It used to work here, directly from SX to Reason. It got lost, but I'll be back with an update once I found it.

Hi guys,

I gave a try to your suggestions, and found out a brilliant thing in the process:

NO ROUTING WHAT-SO-EVER IS NEEDED.

Once the rewire is activated, all Reason devices can be directly accessed from SX simply by choosing them at the 'out' combo-box of the channel. They automaticly appear or vanish as you add or remove them from Reason. No need to define or rout anything.

Brilliant, as I've already said. :smile:

Thanks,

yes, thats usual way how to use reason with sequencer but can be problem because reason have 64 chanels and it's possible that you don't have enough chanels for others audios.
to set 16 rewires chanels instead of 64 just copy "ReWire Cubase Fix" file in same directory where the reason.exe file is.

True, but you can always enable them all in the Rewire panel and then make a few group channels in the Cubase Mixer, or within Reason, use their internal mixers and then have them route out like busses. There's nothing that says you have to have all 64 Reason channels going in the Cubases ReWire panel. Besides, the difference of having x number of channels being handled along side Cubase and withing Cubase is pretty minor as the CPU is picking up the slack anyway. If you route it all through the ASIO Scope driver, you're probably better off in terms of track count. I have the same setup (SPF -> CubaseSX -> Reason 2 , and it all routes into Cubase's summing bus which I attribute to individual channels by hard panning each ASIO stereo pair and running mono channels into the 24 mixer (whose name I'm forgetting). U can then Buss and AUX FX to your heart's content, leave the FX to your Pulsar and automate as though Reason were a VST instrument. It's a pretty bitchin setup and probably more efficient resource-wise than trying to run Reason on Wave drivers or some such alternative.

Hope that helps,
Sam
p.s. Rebirth can be run in the Rebirth router device in Reason 1 & 2 without having to route it within SPF.
