I have a strange problem with the PlanetZ forum:
The unread/updated threads and topics are no longer marked with red folders... They're all yellow ?
I've tried to find relevant cookies on my machine with no luck. Does anybody know what could be causing this ?
I often have login problems when posting files. I'll already be logged in, try to post a file, it'll appear to upload, then ask for me to login again ! Now I always log out then login before posting a file
Information for new readers: A forum member named Braincell is known for spreading lies and malicious information without even knowing the basics of, what he is talking about. If noone responds to him, it is because he is ignored.
Mine is set to the proper forum setting in prefs and also has this problem. I believe it's a phpBB thing as several other sites i've maintained in the past used phpBB and had similar issues, tho it seemed to come & go not stay as long as this has.
Also when you linger too long on the forums and all threads suddenly seem to be marked read--another phpBB thing. vBulletin handles it much better but converting to it can be time consuming and silly when someone has invested this much time in phpBB already.
It can also be because your security settings are too high. Planet Z seems to require a lower-than-usual cookie security setting to allow the red/yellow icons to function properly. Lower them just for a test and see if that helps.
I don't think it's caching or security settings problem. I tried to reproduce the problem on 8 different computers (running Win95, 98 x 2, 2000, XP, MacOS 9.2.2 x 3) with the same results. And it all started to be about a week ago.
This is very strange.
I've noticed the problem too, but wasn't that concerned because I just switched from IE to Opera, so I thought I didn't have my cookie security settings correct.
But now I see so many other people having the problem, I wonder what's changed?? I haven't touched the forum software in a month or so, so I didn't break it!
Perhaps the service provider has recently changed something (e.g. upgraded PHP??)
I just spent a few hours on this, and I believe the problem is that the server's clock is wrong. I've sent mail to the admins. We'll see if it improves...
