Hi all!
I'm new to this forum, but i've seen most of you are really a sort of wizards of DAW! So here i hope to resolve 2 problems!

To you, Creamware Wizards :wink:

1st prob
--------

I bought a LunaII and i'm very happy of my DSP card, i can play GigaStudio as VSTi (CubaseSX/CubaseVST32) really greatly but ALONE. I can play Gigastudio routing it's audio to Cubase without any problem, but if i try to play a VSTi, i've clicks and pops everywhere!!
CPU consumption is around 10% but still have clicks, "msg32.exe" -> tried priority from "high" to "normal": in this way something change, but pops and clicks still are here!
The strange thing is that VSTi *ONLY* play incredibly!

2nd prob
--------

I tried to record live a friend of mine singing while i playing TheGrand, so *no* Gigastudio, but during recording session i've pops and clicks everywhere too!

Here my config:

- AMD Athlon XP 2000+;
- A7V333 BIOS rev.1015;
- 1Gb RAM DDR PC2700 2.5;
- PCI Latency (BIOS) from 16 to 48 without results;
- WinXP Pro highly optimized (only my audio needs);
- Network card Realtek 10/100; (disabled too!)
- GeForce2MX with latest drivers;
- VIA Chipset KT333 with latest 4in1 (Hyperion 4.45);
- Western Digital (40Gb) and IBM (60Gb) @7200RPM;
- *no overclock*;
- SFP 3.1c (tried to change the priority too!);

-CubaseSX v1.05.61;
-Gigastudio v2.53.05;

a strange thing:
Gigastudio see my LunaII as a GSIF compatible and sets 44100/32bit (?!)
i can 44100 dropping down the combo box, but 32bit are fixed! is it normal?!

if any of you has a chanche to help me i'll be very greacefull!!
if u needs a screenshot of my routing window i can tell you where to get it!!

Thank you all, Creamware Wizards!

Look man, i had an amd setup before, i was unable to have giga and anything else play togheter correctly... Even thou Logic alone played well, and giga alone played well. The minute a changed my amd setup for an intel setup, everything was fine.

Giga use harddisk ALOT... Normal, it's using streaming technologies. And The grand, allthou is a VSTi, it is still using hd alot... All of it's samples are on disk too!

So, the amd ide channel are using PCI bandwidth as the Luna, as any effects specially reverbs and delays...

Now that i use and intel chipset, the ide channels on the i850 for example use a separate channel to talk with memory and CPU, and now, i can use giga + Logic + Ableton all at the same time without ANY glitch...

BTW, if you use Giga, make sure of at least one thing... You GOT to use a second hd for all it's samples... Because of the streaming that's happening all the times. If you try to record audio in Cubase while giga is streaming, glitch WILL happen... Even with an Intel chipset.

You could go in the XP optimizing thread here on planetZ, clear any services not used, etc...

Also, i would recommend using the Asio2 32bits-64 in your SFP project... This helps discharging the cpu a bit.

Anyway, don't worry about 'this forum' like you said :smile:

DudeZ it has been emphasized time amd time again that Intel Chipsets are the way to go if you want problem free operation. Look for the highest FSB 533 or 400. Then you will see and hear the REAL sounds from your cards.
:grin: :grin: Hop on the Tech TRAIN. If you observe there are less problems being posted on this forum now as opposed to time gone by. :grin:

I wish I had a problem: Asus P4B 533,Pentium 4 2Ghz processor, 512 MB memory, Case with 420w power supply and one extra fan, Win 2000 SPK 3, 2 WD 7200 HDs both as masters, CDRW as secondary slave, 2 Luna 11 cards on IRQ 5 Slot 2 and 4 respectively, Logic Audio Gold 4.81, Wave Lab 4, USB and floppy disabled. 64 MB TNT video card (AGP). Intel App Accelerator, Direct X 8.1 for NT. MAKE IT SIMPLE. EASIER TO UNDERSTAND.

I thought the Asio2 drivers were more intensive on the CPU than the Asio (1).

Thank you :smile:

I don't know if asio2 is more cpu intensive than asio1, but i know that asio2-24bits is more cpu intensive than asio2-32bits...

This is due to PCI design... Your PCI bus is 32bits, for it to pass 24bits of data, the cpu has to pad 8 more empty bits to each packet before sending data into the bus, thus consuming more cpu than 32bits.

I have an Intel chipset and it's working pretty well with the gigastudio (separate hard drive and slowest ULL). I am building a new 2 gigahertz computer with a faster second hard drive. I hope it will be my computer for the next 5-10 years.
