I find that when I playback audio tracks in Cubase SX (through DSP factory) the Luna software comes up with a message something about PCI capacity - RETRY or CANCEL.

I never had PCI messages under Win 98. I think I've done all the XP tweaks recommended. Is it because the software now puts out a message when it's getting close whereas it didn't before, or have I really got less PCI capacity in XP than I did under 98?

Has anyone else had this problem and solved it?

Well, i can see at least 2 problems here:

1-Remove the Soundblaster card, at any cost...
2- Do anything to have all sound card have each their own IRQ, especially the Pulsar and your video card...They should not share IRQ... Move then on differents slot until you find the good combination.

You have quite a staggering amount of hardware in one box there... it seems you have clearly got IRQ problems due to the amount of hardware you have in there.

for the record, I would always get PCI capacity messages in win98 when I was using a P3B-F (especially when using USB)... this all changed when I got an intel 815-based board (Asus CUSL2-C) and now I have my Pulsars in a magma chassis attached to a laptop (also uses 815 chipset) it's still performing brilliantly, even though it shares IRQs with a bunch of other stuff.

My advice is to ditch the ancient motherboard, and try and reduce the amount of hardware you have in the machine. What on earth could you possibly need a Soundblaster, Powersampler, DS2416 and Digi001 for at the same time??

Also, try installing WinXP in non-ACPI mode if you haven't already, and turn off all power management (even APM).

Another tip with the Roland USB midi interface (I own the same model) - try toggling the "Light load" button in the driver properties.

I forgot to say, I have tried with other cards disabled. I don't know whether that has the same effect as removing the card.

I have been wondering whether I need to go the new motherboard route.
The first thing I tried, was to re-install with standard PC mode.

Under Win 98, I have DS2416/Cubase, DIGI001/Protools, Powersampler/Luna II working perfectly - never ever saw a PCI capacity message from Luna or ProTools, but they both give it under WinXP. I'm thinking after what you've been saying that this motherboard is not working with XP very well.

I'm thinking I'll take your advice and get new Mobo (+processor upgrade at the same time) as I'm fed up with trying to solve it.

Bye the way, I have the Soundblaster for the internet partition only.
