how you doin? Just a silly question : When Im recording i.e. a guitar I always have some darn volume problems.Does any of you gurus here please have an idea of how can I bring up just the monitor volume without effecting the recording volume?

hmmm not shure what u mean, let me just explain my prob a little more detailed:

when im playing a guitar with some music as background the guitar is too quiet.But if I record it in SX it is fairly too loud What I need is some sort of "monitoring" level which I can control to obtain the same volume when just playing along or recording.

Here's all you need to know about monitoring.

1) manually set monitoring on a track: SX->File->Prefs->VST->Manual Auto Monitoring

2) SX->devices->Device Setup->VST Multitrack->Direct Monitoring on (w ASIO2 drivers)

3) Look after your mixing path in SFP.

Indeed I do, Im just not sure we are thinking about the same problem.
Let me explain again :

Imagine you playing a guitar alongside an audio track which is looping.The volume of the guitar at that point is too quiet as you would like it to be.But you try to record the guitar anyways just to check the sound.When youre done and press play to see what you've rec. the guitar is noticably louder than it was when just playing alongside.So now you ask yourself if it is possible to just raise the volume when playing alongside without affecting the volume of the guitar when it will be recorded.

listen to the monitor outputs of the sfp mixer.you can set volumes as you like w/o affecting final mix.really,a non/typical studio problem.

hello,
does that have anything to do with the VU mode??Now Im literally shredding the manual inside out and it is the only thing that comes to my mind

there are switches or volume device that you can put in front of your wave or asio Dest : so you can record at max volume, without touching the mixtable volume (so your monitoring at the volume you whish). see device pages or searche for "volume", "gain" or "switch"

at least, if I understand yourproblem (not sure)

hi, you can use this easy workaround:
load also a "channel" from the mixer menu in sfp, connect it directly to the asio destination and plug in it directly your instrument source (analog source or whatever). also connect the same source to the mixer for monitoring.
so you will have totally independent volumes for listening and for recording.

if you want to have insert effects for recording and monitor them as well, you can do in this other way:
connect the instrument source to the "channel" device in wich you can put also your inserts, route the "channel" to the asio destination AND to the mixer, so you will have the level for the recording set in the "channel" with its inserts and monitor everything in the mixer at the level you want.

I think we've all had silly questions at one time or another.

Incidentally I always insert a single channel before my analog destination (which I use to monitor) so that I have control over my monitoring levels independantly...

this virtual crap works the same way that real gear does,same basics of routing.....
