I need to feed a drum-signal (stereo-drum-loop) into the sidechain input of the Ducker (or any other compressor/limiter). How does that work in XTC-Mode? I could not find any solution for this problem.

Have you tried to insert an XTC plugin in the drumloop chain, then right-click in the sidechain effect to select that drumloop plugin?

I just tested it here and it works. You have to insert (at least) one XTC plugin in the path of where you want to tap sidechain from. Obviously, you can only connect devices already on DSP to XTC sidechains.

I tried this yesterday. My experience was, that if you insert the signal from any other channel into the ducker, you also hear this signal on the channel, in which you have inserted the ducker.

E. g.:

Channel 1 = Stereo Drum Loop
Channel 2 = Soft Pad

Channel 1 Insert Compressor/s
Channel 2 Insert Ducker/s

Now I can pick the output from the compressor/s and insert this into the sidechain of the ducker/s in channel 2. This makes a "moving" or "walking" padsound on channel 2. This is exactly what I want. BUT: I also hear the drumloop on Channel 2. And I don't want that at all.

If I use the optimaster instead of the ducker it works. Only the moving padsound and no drums. But the optimaster is not as dsp-friendly as the ducker. And the latency is really disturbing.

Any other idea? The perfect solution would be a noisegate that runs as VST Plugin and has a sidechain as well. There is such a plugin in Logic but I don't know any for Cubase. Do you?

A ducker does just that: it compresses the main input and thru-puts the sidechain if a signal -which complies to the Attack and Release parameters you set up in the ducker- is detected on the sidechain.

The Optimaster works, so you need a sidechain compressor instead of a ducker. Just grab the standard SFP compressor, it should do the job!

After your post, I started to play with side-chains in XTC. They work, although don't always seem to be (re-)stored. Maybe that's got to do with the order of loading devices, I don't know.

Also, have you seen any logic in the list of outputs you can select as side-chain? I connect using 'trial and error', hoping I selected the right device to connect to.

sorry, but it does not work. The pulsar compressor does not have a sidechain in xtc mode (unfortunately ...)

What the... I'm absolutely positive that it works here.

Oh here's maybe the trick: I always insert other fx (also the compressor) in a MultiFX. If you're using it in a track directly, maybe it won't have the Sidechain button on the Compressor panel...
