Right heres a good one!!!
firstly trance! have you heard a cosmic gate productions? (i.e firewire, or remixes of ferry corstens 'punk',or 4 strings 'diving(cosmic gate)')
the kick drum has THAT sound and THAT sound is the one iv been looking for a year now, pulsar wont create it, vsti havn't got it.....
DJ ISAAC has the same kick drum sound
i want it! what instrument creates THAT sound and why cant i find it.
is it the end production and the fact that i am comparing my sounds to mega processed vinyl or am i just not looking/eq'ing in the right place
and while your thinking along those lines what do they get there bassline sounds from?
answers on a postcard
to a frustrated pulsarian

it's probably the sound+processing so there's probably nothing that has that exact sound, premade.
on the other hand,it's probably a normal sound source or sample with compression and eq according to the usual studio limitations,so you could probably learn how to do it with some careful listening, research and patience.......
or just sample it!

I wouldn't mind a few sessions of 'how would YOU get this sound in pulsar (along with your favorite sequencer & plugins etc).
Why not post a link with an audio clip (pick a section where your kick stands out most and compress to 196k non-joint stereo mp3 to give us enough to judge by).

Well it's conceivable that this is a 909 kick with a long decay & a lot of distortion, but I'm betting that what you have here is a kick & a bass sound.
Most of the energy in the kick seems to be around 105-115 hz (notch sharp up there ~6-10db and then notch sharp down an equal amount ~160hz or so to remove the mid-boominess). Kick also seems to have the beater impact eq'd up a LOT (the twack on top) or it *might* be another sample on top of the kick. Most likely, though, it's just a sharp eq peak at 6-8k (notch below with equal cut if it gets too thick again ~2k or so).
Then the bass sound (which is DEFINATELY heavily distorted) seems to be pushed down by compression (it COULD just be triggered late) either by compression with the kick, or by side-chaining off the kick to make it pump on it's own. The kick itself is DEFINATELY heavily compressed...
I could be totally off-base but after a bit of looking at it in wavelab and listening, this is how I would achieve the same sound. Perhaps a bit of a gate on the mix of the two to get the release that you see at the end of each beat if it needed it.

exactly.it's the combination of more than one thing most likely.

Hi mrvinyl,
I'm producin trance and some progressive stuff, and i was also looking for a nice bass, i first used some VST's like Absynth and ES2, but they didn't gave me de result i was looking for, but then i discoverd FM7 it got this very warm sound, and it really sounds good with the Creamware AD/DA Converters. so i use FM7 for my basslines.
Good Luck

I don't really know this specific kick you're talking about... can you post a sound sample? Maybe I can try a guess. (this is fun)

thanks for all the info, gonna pull the file into wavelab and do some examining.
i sampled it from vinyl so thats why it sounds processed to the max.
anyway gonna do some examining then will be back with a report

Its a 909 and an 808 mixed together with a bit of distortion. You will have to do alot of eq work to get it right before you bounce them together.

ive got the sound i was looking for after about 8 months worth of tweaking, just to let you know compression is the key!!!!

So what's reason doing? Generating the kick samples I guess? Just curious.
PS I don't blame Pulsar anymore, I blame windows!

An OS that allows you to write over system dll's?

just jumping in...sorry, not to sound tempting, but to me there's nothing mysterious to that sound, it's an all day trick, totally common: you put the kick (no doubt, it's the 909 or may be the 808 kick, and I heavily doubt it's a combination of them, that's asking for trouble and you don't need that) into a mixer's channel, and turn up the trim pot (and lower the ch's volume).
If you do this hard enough, you don't need a compressor at all on that kick.
Rebirth and Reason can do this also, both have a perfect distortion build in, works very autentical.
So the only difficulty is if you work with software plugs, you need to find the right distortion, tape saturator or compressor to get the right analog sound.
Try PSP's Vintage Warmer, I suspect you'll be close.
BTW, KickMe can do it also, the sound is amazingly good, so it's already there and it's free
My old Spirit Folio mixer can do the trick very great, my current Mackie 1202 mixer however not, so you have to experiment if hardware is or should be involved.
I once made a selection of 909 kicks with 5 steps 'trim-distortion' for different 909 kicks, and the same for the toms, which get crazy also.
Those where the Kurzweil days...

I think Hubird got it right. It's most likely a 909 kick with distortion. Could be a sampled kick with distortion but the important part is the distortion/overdrive. It also sounds like a hihat or other high freq sound is layered on top of the kick.
I'd really suggest trying out Adern's KickMe device and couple that with a bit of distortion or overdrive and you'll be on you way.
The basssound isn't really very complicated either. Actually it sound like just a simple saw wave, but a common trick in this kind of music is to compress kick and bass together to make a really solid bass end.
There a tutorial
here that you will probably find useful.
