I'm thinking of getting a rackmount case for my Pulsar rig. From my research, I have found these problems with the server cases:
(1) $$$$
(2) heavy as hell
(3) most are too deep and will hang out of the back of an audio rack.

does anyone know of a server case less than $150 that is light and will fit audio standards? no power supply needed.

Also, I have an idea to build one for cheap - places like samash sell metal rack frames for cheap. I was thinking of buying a black desktop ATX case (not too pricey) and mounting it into an empty rack frame. This would be light, cheap, should fit into an audio rack, and DIY  Any thoughts or problems with this approach?

For $150 you will not find any rack cases.(except maybe on ebay) the desktop case to rack is a good plan if you can find a good setup. the only small light rack case i know of is the lian li (sp?) RL40 but its probably hard to find and expensive. (its aluminium(light) and only 19" deep.

keep us posted!

I built a computer into a sampsonite suitcase I used a flat panel monitor and built little hinges for it so that it folds back and you can close the suitcase. it even has wheels, this works well, for about 6 months I took it once a week to a club and did an acid jazz thing it was about 100$ (except the panel) and is about as easy to carry as a 6 space rack.

I've done a similar thing, building my computer from a microATX case. Be weary of rack-mounts however as alot of them will probably be too shallow to take that BIG pulsar card. As for the microATX.... it fits, just!
