In the coming days, I'll be moving planetz to a new server with faster net access and more diskspace. When this happens there will be a period of time when the forum (or the whole site) will be down, while I transfer the forums and the gazillion files over to the new server.
Hopefully, all will go smoothly! I'll post updates here. But if one day you come by and there's nothing here at all, DON'T PANIC!

Just try again the next day.

Wow! It seems is getting bigger and bigger and bigger... isn't it? Again, I'm going to build up sort of an artificial Z into my system, like "The Matrix" program, to be able to still continue having fun will you all... he he

Hey! My peril-sensitive sunglasses are opaque again!
Life's cool, I'm cool and there is no reason to be concerned over this.

Thanks for everything. If you ever need a new host let me know. I have a friend with a T1 in his house and he sells space cheap.

Today's the day. Domain name transfer is in progress, and will slowly propagate across the internet. I anticipate that there will a day or so delay before everything is ironed out and working again. Wish me luck!
Please avoid uploading new files, as I'll be moving all files over to the new server today!

I've changed permissions on all the file upload forums to moderators-only for today. So you can't upload any new files until I've finished the move!!

Hi John
Not to sound rude, but please remember to take a back-up of the database for the forum. I hope you do not take this as an insult - better to say it ten times too many, than one time too little.

Haha, of course!
How else could I move the database from one machine to another???
Update, I'm still waiting for the nameserver changes to propagate from the registrar to me (and the rest of the world)... This is taking longer than I expected. They say 24 hours (and it hasn't yet been 24 hours), but usually it's quicker!!

The site is slowly coming back to life, on the new server.
Note that file uploads are still locked out while I iron out differences in the PHP setup on the new server. Grrr, it's never easy!!

It seems worth it, the new site is NOTICEABLY quicker.

Glad to hear that!!
Unfortunately, I'm still stuck waiting from a response from the "helpdesk" at the new ISP -- on a technical PHP server configuration issue (the file upload mechanism is slightly broken on their server, due to a bunch of safety features).
So, it looks like new file uploads will have to wait til tomorrow. I'll post further announcements here.
Cheers,
-John

John are you sure this new server is better than the old one? Since you've moved PZ here I've had a lot of problems accessing the site. On several occasions I've encountered 404 and "user limit exceeded" errors, and posting this message alone took 4 attempts at hitting the Reply button! This never happened to me with the old server.
Don't mean to whinge, but I thought it best to report my experiences in case others are having the same trouble.
Cheers,
Retro
