Check the license agreement carefully.
According to a news site I frequent, by installing Service pack 3 you agree to allow microsoft install software onto your computer remotely whenever they feel like it.

Well Microsoft won't be coming near my win2K installation as it is not connected to the internet! So no worries here.

A hate Microsoft and the XP license policy is imoral but having said that it is a lot better than 2K for music.
