HI ! I just started the cubase sx on the
windows xp. It is extremely unstable and
full of clicks especially at lower latencies ! What shall I turn off/on in the
windows ? At the time I am pretty dissapointed on that combination. Please answer!

No it won't crash your system.

Here's what I did:

I made 2 Hardware configurations, and tweaked one fully: disabled LAN/all network drivers as firewall, Netbios etc, disabled drives I don't use etc. In Device Manager, show Hidden Devices and there'll be some more you can disavle. Note, if you're not sure about something, disable it in one Hardware Profile only.
This way of work saves me about 20MB RAM in DAW Hardware Profile.

To disable Services in one Hardware Profile, you can select that w in the Service Properties Page, under tab page 'Log On'.

Good luck

So in "General" Hardware Profile I have 28 Services running, in "DAW" only 8
Here they are:
Event Log
Logical Disk Manager
P'n'P
RPC
Shell HW detection
Win Audio
WMI
Win Performance Adapter

If anyone knows what more I can disable/set to manual, to not have it active...

Advantage of this is that I don't need 2 complete OS's and installations on my comp. Cos I don't like that a lot...

That's very wise Atomic.

Are *all* changes you make to the OS bound to the profile? For example, some of the tweaks mentionned on this site involve some changes to the registry... Do all users share the same registry?

If they don't, then I guess I could reorganize my system and get rid of the dual boot, using XP profiles only.

Ofcourse not all changes are related to the Hardware Profile. I believe the registry contains all profiles and most tweaks will apply to all profiles. If you want to be sure, just open the Registry in the other Hardware Profile and see if the tweaks' applied there too

Dual full OS still speeds things more up, cos the DAW registry then will not contain all ICQ, Internet Explorer, Norton, Office etc etc stuff. One could ie. install WinXP, SFP, Cubase and some plugins only. That would make your pc very lean.
