when i open the SX mixer , there´s the typical crackling sound. when i move the mixer out of the visible screen, crackles stop. it seems that the graphics card is taking away performance for drwing the mixer.am i right?
any ideas to fix it?

-latest drivers installed, pci latency checked and so on..

using SX and sfp 3.1a on win xp pro
system: CUSL2C/PIII 1000/512mb cl 2 RAM/2x vga on leadtek winfast pro dh/ibm ide drives/midex 8

one more thing:of course i could raise ulli latency, but i think the syste, should run on 4ms, as i read from other posts.

Raise your ULLI, use one screen, or use a Matrox G450/550 for dual monitors.

I think the real reason that matrox cards are preferred by many DAW users is because it is easy to turn off bus mastering. i am not quite clear why AGP bus mastering affects the PCI bus, but it does. I am pretty sure there is a way to turn it off for Nvidia cards, but i just do not know what it is

There are video card "overclocking" programs for nvidia cards, i used to use one for a while, there were lots of options in there besides just overclocking. sorry i can not recall if bus mastering (pci bus retries) was in there.

"background services" fixed it.

Aww man.

You guys found a cure for this problem and it involves Win XP? Great. Too bad I can't run 3DAT under Win XP. That's it, I gotta get me some new recording software.

One thing that puzzles me though: I had the same problem with WinME using the analog output from Pulsar (I assume that is where you are hearing this problem right?). My problem went away when I stopped using the analog output and used toslink to A16 instead. I was so sure this was some type of grounding problem. If it was a config issue, wouldn't you think the problem would exist in the ADAT outputs as well? Or am I misunderstanding?

i assume that your case is totally different; that´s why my solutuion is different.I was trying to find out the limits in my system by reducing ULLI step by step. the "background services" setting is a tuning tip given in many threads. it might give your system a little extra perfomance, too ( unless already set) . btw sometimes i still have to switch to 7 ms for security, but it´s much better now.
