I've noticed that sometimes at the bottom of my mixer (2448) the bit that says "ChXX" vanishes. I can't work out what causes it to vanish or how to get it back. Not a big issue but its kinda odd.

I had this problem with v3.01 for Mac. Are you using SFP3.1? The only way I could resolve this was to reload the mixer, which if you're halfway through a project could be very boring if you've got lots of settings you want.

That mixer is suffering from a bunch of problems.

Try this one: does the "Q" setting in the small graphical EQ window change on you when you jump from channel to channel and back? Plop an EQ setting in on one of the channels and adjust the Q and then switch back & forth from another channel. Does it remain the same?

If so, then I have a personal problem

Sometimes, when I pop up the channel window, it comes out white, sometimes it's all black with only the led meter lights dancing about...

I'm curious...

Are there any mixers in this software that actually work right all the way through? Hasn't this application, for all intents and purposes, been around for about 5 years now?

I mean, maybe I'm being too simplistic about this. Entire civilizations have come and gone in less time. I realize this is a very involved piece of software, but there is more than one person working on it at any given time isn't there?
