Hi,

1st of all my setup:
SIS K7S5A, AMD 1700+, 512 MB RAM
Pulsar I + SRB, SFP 3.1
Audiobahn 16
Win XP
Cubase SX.

Symptoms:
My Headphone Amp is connected to 2 outs of the Audiobahn.
Works fine until Cubase SX is started.

After a while the output via ADAT out (i.e. all Audiobahn Outs) toggles on and off randomly.
Analog Out is not affected.

Any ideas?

Have you tried the obvious things such as trying another optical cable?

Of course I did.
But anyway, there is no reason why both cables should be defective after starting Cubase SX and all right again after quitting SX.

Yeah I figured you would have done; sorry when dealing person to person I am used to problem solving with people that don't try the obvious!

Sound strange I know, but Does Sx have a USB or serial dongle or can you have either?
If so which one do you have?

I've got the USB dongle.
I also suspect the SX USB dongle for those random breaks. But who knows?

Did you install XP with ACPI disabled?

Have you got the most uptodate drivers for your mobbo/usb?
I think USB is your most likely suspect, (assuming you installed your computer in no acpi mode, stating the obvious again)

If new drivers don't work contact me in a private msg, for a possible workaround.

Everything ín and on the machine has got the hottest and newest drivers. And ACPI was never ever activated while and after installing XP.

sometimes,it helps to try changing which device is the master(clock).

It is my understanding that ACPI is by default always on during the installation process and that to not use ACPI you must turn it off during the initial installation process. It would be interesting for you to try a different recording program that didn't need the USB dongle, that way you could disable your USB in the Windows Control Panel. There is directions in the Tips and Tricks section on how to determine if ACPI is in fact deactivated on your computer.

I would contact Creamware. I had the same problem with my ADAT out and no audio from SPDIF in. Since installing the SFP 3.1A I still have the same problem with the spdif and have not yet tested the ADAT out. A lot of other people have been having problems with the spdif. It seems to have worked better under pulsar 2.5.

I don't know much about adat, but when a device is updated in each new release of sfp (or older pulsar for that amtter), i had to completely delete the device from a particular project, then save this project, open it back, then add the removed device back in, and save again. Seems, some devices are keept kinda inside the saved project. I don't know if this affect all devices, but it surely can affect luna analog out in mine.
This apply when trying to open a project previously made with and older version of sfp (or pulsar). Does not apply to complete new project created from scratch. So maybe it the case for at least 'some' of you.

i use the adat i/o constantly with great results.my devices seem to be picky about which one is master(one way works better than the others),that's probably your problem.

ADAT out works fine without Cubase SX.
It is getting mad while Cubase SX is running.
After quitting Cubase SX, ADAT out works normally again!

- No old Pulsar projects were opened.
- All devices are fresh and new from SFP 3.1
- The problem has nothing to do with ACPI.
- Everything in the system has its latest drivers.
- The USB dongle MIGHT be the problem.

Please could somebody with Cubase SX check this out?

If you have ACPI enabled on your computer(it is unless you specifically turned it off as you installed XP), polling on the USB bus(which is what cubase does when it looks for the dongle) can and will disrupt audio that is streaming through your computer. So it's important to know; is ACPI off?

OOOPPPS!!!!

Sorry for confusing the community.
I found out, WHEN Adat switches off itself.
It has nothing to do with Cubase SX!!!
It also has NO RANDOM effects!


ADAT Out switches off for about 1-2 seconds if I
- move/click the mouse
- press a key
ADAT In , Analog out is not affected.
MIDI input also doesn't cause the ADAT out switch off.


I didn't notice this after quitting Cubase, because I didn't made any mouse/key inputs while playing on the synth keyboard so everything seemed to be normal as stated above.
And while Cubase was running of course I had to do several inputs.
Sorry again!

- ACPI is not activated. XP Decive Manager says "Standard PC".
- Every component has its own IRQ. No IRQ sharing was necessary.
- onboard sound is deactivated in BIOS.
- But onboard LAN is activated.
- Pulsar runs on IRQ 3, the IRQ of my deactivated 2nd serial port.

So the problem is now focussed.
Any help please?

Change IRQ of pulsar to 9 or 10.
It's worth a try. I really thought strongly about that whole USB ACPI thing.

it's not irq or acpi.it's most likely a sync problem (the effect is called jitter)or it's a hardware issue(the cable is bad or less likely the converter is bad or less likely the card is bad)

the sync issue(if it is that) could be master/slave or even heat related(a tie in to hardware)

it should certainly work cleanly.

I run my 2 cards with a slot empty between them because of heat issues.
