Someone should make a synth emulating the C64 SID chip. It seems like a quite complex chip and I have yet to find a Pulsar synth which can emulate it. Some of them can make things that come close, but not quite there...

For those who are interested in VST Instruments, reFX will release such a VSTi soon:

Pretty cool. And Chris Huelsbeck is on board too:) Greaty. It would probably sound better on Pulsar but who knows what they can come up with... holding my breath.

It would probably sound better on Pulsar
Why is that? :???:

Well for the obvious reason. You can dedicate more calculating power using the DSPs, since you don't really have to think about not using too much power.

Perhaps this type of synth doesn't need much processing power. Why else would they develope a four-in-one SID? And I'm sure my PIII 800 MHz has more processing power than the 6 x 60 MHz op my Pulsar II...

Actually I am pretty sure that your 800mhz P3 has no chance against 6 60mhz DSP's....
Remember that DSP's were designed for sound and thus don't have to do all sorts of 'work around' math to get the results.

That's another interesting discussion, but for now let's wait for the QuadraSID. Hopefully it can reproduce that gritty sound I've heard on http://www.sidstation.com.

Yup I hope so too... SID stations price has always been putting me off. about 1000$ for a 5$ chip with MIDI and I/O is a bit over the top...
