i don't have this distortions with sfp anymore, maybe is problem with your samples, or some gain setting, or... i don't know  but i have other problems with sts. actualy, i always had problems pulsar's samplers.
this is one of solution how to solve sts's problems forever - for me works

Same prob as Cook here,
In fact, sts 4000 never worked good. I've completly renewed my system but it's completely unusable...
Think I'll try Sandrob tip  ... or buy Kontakt (very good stuff).

STS works GREAT here, all my issues haven't shown up yet in SFP3.1 ... no distortions or crackles, and no more filter bleed. In fact I really enjoy working with STS.

Right, funny, only some of us experience STS problems. We'll find out sooner or later...

So you got your <a href=http://www.planetz.com/forums/viewtopic ... m=3&21>STS fixed</a> then by a BIOS setting, cook?

Here's hoping!

Yes. I will watch it, and report very honest if it's not true.

Since I don't understand *anything* about these settings, I just had a look into the BIOS to what I've done:

I changed:
- ECC settings to: correct+scrub
- SDRAM Timing Setting to: Manual, then:
- TRC Timing to: 7cycles

STS-crackles are gone for shure and I tested it with my most vulnerable sound: E-piano. Still gone. ...Still.

Most reliable distortions I could get when I played additional notes to the ones recorded. Guaranteed crackles. It's totally OK now!

Well, the graphic seems to react faster now, but I start to feel like a reborn christian... facts.

Well that's just IT! I am going to write a full 'basics of STS' guide and post it up as soon as I can, to help you guys get the most from this device. I know some people already have dismissed it, this is okay, you must use the tools that are comfortable for you, but STS is one of my favorites so I will attempt to show why... it might be a little while, but it should be good when it comes.

cook, i'm glad that you finaly find solutions. i had crackles only in xp/3.01 combination so i realy think that's was bug - and cw's response that's the "knowing bug".
now with cw's "PepSurface.dll" update my sts3000 can work good but for me STS fixed still working
i will rather use my 6 dsp for reverbs, optimasters, psyq, synths... then to samplers. as sub said: "you must use the tools that are comfortable for you" - i found my new optimal setup.

and, yes!! what's about akaies in filebrowser!? i don't need that anymore, but, sub, don't forget fix for that.
hm, i mean real fix not like my fix
