Hi.Im planning to build a new DAW based on :
ATHLON XP 2000
1GB of SAMSUNG DDR CAS 2.5 ram
mobo ASUS A7v333 with chipset VIA KT333
The question is...how is good the new VIA KT333?
A lot of people have problems with old via chipsets (i have an early Athlon pre-thunderbird on a mobo ASUS K7 with VIA KX-133 with (very strange!) no probs)
Somebody have ifoz or experience?
Let me know mates,i must to put a PULSAR 2 and a PowerSampler in my new DAW.
Thanx in advance.See Ya

I do find it a bit odd how everybody says how crappy the VIA chipsets are. Then you have cases(like me ,so far) with them working really well. I have yet to see any information on specific VIA sets that are specific to causing problems with CW cards. Over all it seem the general consensus is stay away from VIA. I find it very interesting, and I hope this doesn't get me flamed for my curiosity! Hope somebody has your answer.

Typical subpar VIA performance for PCI. You'll know the difference when you have 64 sampler voices running along with a few really high quality reverbs on your CW dsps.
Try the masterVerb test on your VIA system: on an Intel i815 chipset, you can get 12 masterVerbs or more, on a i850 system you can get 10 masterVerbs or more, this is without any fiddling or tweaking. Although it is probably unrealistic to use that amount of reverbs in one project at the same time, other devices such as delays, STS voices, etc do depend on your chipset's PCI performance, and this is a good way to test a platform's limits. If you see the famous "PCI overflow" message (probably much sooner than 10 reverbs heh), it's more than likely you're running a VIA chipset...

Anybody have real experience with the new VIA chipset?
