Hey... I want to run 16 mono tracks smoothly through cubase via ASIO 2. Can anyone help me tweak my system? I am getting poor playback/sound quality.

PIII 1000
ASUS CUSL2-C
256MB (going to 512)
Pulsar II (propack)
SB Live Platinum
2x Seagate 7200RPM 20 HD

I Have tried both sessions in 24 and 16 bit... both play poorly. I have done all the optimising tips in the Pulsar manual.
Does anyone have any ideas??

Yeah I could take out the live...

Is there anyway to optimise the "sound card source" so it responds without delay?

Thanks for the response BTW I am one of those geeks and proud of it! lol..

Anyone else got any tips? How bout optimising Cubase (audiosystemmemory settings?)

(I am also running Win98se)

sorry to be not much of a help (mac over here), but first thing the pc boys will ask, is what os you are using.

check out the optimize your pc for audio threads in the tips and tricks section, especially tailored for every major OS

i found some useful things here on cubase: http://www.cubase.net/

If you have a look at other posts both here and on Creamware's forum, you'll see that Sound Card Dest and Source modules are quite unpopular! I tried to get them to work with a Yamaha DS2416 for a while and ended up giving up several months later and I'm going to sell the Yamaha!

How have you routed your system ?

And maybe I'm a bit slow but I don;t understand exactly what the problem is. Are you getting crackles or instability of your PC or lockups etc or is it that you are having problems just "setting up the path" ?

Maybe this will help a little - and if I'm on the wrong track then please spell it out for me

Ok Here's the Problem.
I am trying to playback 16 mono channels from cubase through pulsar. I am using 8 stereo ASIO2 channels to do it... The only thing that is going wrong is that the playback is clicky, poppy and generally crap!

Does anyone have any tips to optimise cubase with pulsar?

can be many reasons.
try to set bios like in manual: disable power managenent, usb...
enable plug & play 0s, PCI 2.1 Support...
check startup programs - leave pulsar only.
try with higher ulli setting...
