New : 17 Feb 2002 : The Analogy is officialy released. Check the Device page or
http://www.dadev.com
The Analogy is an Homage to the Vintage synthesizers. It is a very easy to use device, with a classic look and feel. But it features several unique possibilities and is offering a very wide range of new great sounds.
More info about this synth and MP3 Sounds demo are avalaible here : DSPDEV.com
Website.
08-02-2002 've added several new sound samples.
THX and BRASS.

Looks like an impressive device and the MP3 examples show quite a range. Look forward to the demo release !

I'm wondering... what exactly IS destructive synthesis?? Just a simple question.

Old technology, Ken. Destructive means taking out frequencies from an oscillator signal, like a Mini-Moog.

i think in this case it means making new osc waveforms by partly "destroying" the original ones mathematically

Exactly. In fact. I've found by doing a lot of testing, that with simple maths, I could take one wave form (a sin for exemple) and apply a a simple mathematic formula to change it to a new waveform.
The idea was to keep the original signal, and just modify some frequencies.
This is NOT working like a minimoog. The destructive synthesis does not remove frequencies, it ADDS frequencies and it is very noticable.
I've called it destructive synthesis because when you add too much frequencies you obtain something very bright like a distorstion, or a white noise. The result is very complex, so the sounds are not as clean as other synthetisers.
It problem (or the quality) is that it colorize the sound very much. Of course with the Analogy, you can switch off the DS synthesis and keep the original waveform. They are new ones, with new atoms included in the DSPLIB.
It is not a revolution, but somehting interesting, that is doing sounds I just can't do with any other synthetisers.

Sounds very interresting... The new frontiers of digital synthetes are pushed. Good to hear that.
I think that the retro (copy) age is starting to fade away and i'm glad to see you are doing so.
I also loved to hear that NI absynth is also doing this and i hope more people are going to redifine the conventions of synth building...
I'll be seeing forward to the demo... Djody

Thanks for clearing up the view on destructive synthesis.
I admit describing SUBTRACTIVE synthesis.
Yours should still be called additive though.

I think that I should change the name to Distorsion synthesis. I think it is closer to the real principe, even if it does not sounds very attractive
Additive synthesis adds differents waveforms, when the DS synthesis alter mathematically the waveform, nothing is added, nothing substracted, just altered...

I think distortion synthesis is already "taken" though -
I had an old Casio CZ1000. It used what they called "phase distortion" - (I miss it to death! - it was so crunchy and had 10 stage envelopes!)

that's the kind of disto/breakdown you want for this drum'n'bass subbass, kinda like very fast lfo disto
euh.. know what i mean?

Mmmm love those superfast LFOs

. The only device for CW that does good LFO are the ZS404 and ZO405 from Huicholity.
