The moment Dave released the DSI Evolver, the entire electronic music instrument "industry" was reignited with analog, eurorack, digital, hybrid, wavetables, and so many more over the years, even making room to bring back so many designers like Oberheim, Linn, Hartmann....without that kick start, we'd all still be living only in the box...and maybe scope would have had a different life ;)

Rest in peace.

What a HUGE loss. What a HUGE legend. I'm sure he'll be seen on the Mount-Rushmore of Synth designers.

Oh dear, that's sad. At least he lived long enough to see his ideas a success again.

That really sucks, he looked very healthy all these years. Truly a great man. Very sad news.

I´m shocked, last but not least because he looked good all the times.
72 yrs,- that´s much too early and very sad !

I think he already sold the factory and designs to Novation/Focusrite.

Yes, and thee came a new CEO from Focusrite group last year already.

Dave Smith, famed instrument designer and founder, will continue to drive the company’s product vision, development, and engineering efforts.

But exactly this is the big loss.
Who will design new "Sequential" brand instruments now ?

Oberheim gear won´t be an issue,- there´s still Tom and Marcus Ryle now coming up w/ OB-X8 and possibly more in future.

But it might be time to get a Prophet 10 desktop module until Focusrite might shrink the product line down to the more affordable instruments.

:)
