Oberheim Trademark Returned

I had the OBX, Matriz 12, XPander and OB8 years ago.
Then had the Oberheim (Gibson) Echoplex. Then the Oberheim (Viscount) MC3000.
And after all these years the name Trademark has been returned.

Here’s an old pick of NAMM when I walked amongst the Gods.
Holger is just over JBowen’s right shoulder.

I was sold on the XITE-1 at that NAMM show.
Celebrities were all over the place.

I shared it with him because I spotted the Oberheim since I read his reviews in Keyboard and Electronic Musician before the internet came about. JB greeted him and I always carried my Canon at trade shows. JB was definitely getting some attention at the booth.

But OJ was a complete surprise. He loved the mic Pres on the XITE.. :D

Where did it ever go ? Gibsons ownership dates back to ‘88

I see here Behringer tried to ‘append’ it to thiers and failed :

Kinda wierd that a guitar company would want a synth name

Look into the history of Gibson and the players behind all that drama. I seem to recall we've even covered that before on this forum, though it was some years back now. Fun stuff!

Don Buchla stepped in to save the doomed Oberheim (Gibson) OBMx 8 voice rack.

Whats odd is how whenever you read where the name went, it stopped with Viscount who made the OB12, Oberheim B3 drawbar module, MC 1000/2000/3000 and 3000D. No articles, at least from the USA , they never mention the European owners.

Perhaps Bowen, Oberheim and Smith could join forces - eg - Bowen, Oberheim and Smith Synths - (trading as BOSS) and take on Roland

Strength & Honor comes from unity.
Each guy could add their touch.
As long as there’s 3 x Oscillators I’m down..

Don’t think so. If Oberheim got his name back, seems like Smith’s is now owned by — FocusRite :o. Including Sequential - lock stock and barrel !
