Unreliable power problem on my XITE

Post by petal »

For years I've had periodic problems with "unreliable" power on my XITE. Resulting in "copy protection error's".

So far I've been "fixing" it by turning the XITE on and of until it turns on. But for the past few weeks it's been happening several times daily, so I'd like to get it fixed once and for all.

Have a look at the video here, where you can see the power LED flicker for a while before it lights up:

I don't think it's the external power supply, I have tested it with another supply, same problem. My best guess so far is a dodgy cap inside of the XITE - what do you think? and do you have any good ideas as how to fix this?

Cheers,
Thomas

I'll propably ending up having to, and then they'll tell me to ship my unit to Germany for repair. Somehow I have this childish hope that I can avoid that :)

I experience the same with my XITE-1. On pci I never see copyprotection errors.
If I switch on other devices in the same room, the error often occurs.
I hardly believe, that this is an issue of powersupply. Maybe It's interference to the hdmi-cable ?

Well, I have tried everything with the HDMI-cable, including changing it out with other cables, which did not do the trick.

Also, the power LED flickering tells me it is a power issue of some sort.

you could order a power supply and try that first.

perhaps openning it up to give the switch a blast of air or contact cleaner

Thanks - Openning it up and give it a blast of air or contact cleaning is the next step after I've given the other power supply a second go. Only problem with that one is that it used to produce a physical hiss/noise in the Xite itself. But it will do for this test, and just maybe a new power supply actually will do the trick :)

Exactly the same behaviour here. I guess the Xite is designed like that, but a fix would be nice.

To head towards a bugfix, it would be good to understand, where that "copyprotection error" comes from.
Is Xite completely offline or is it just a short corruption of the communications oder is it something on the host ?
How does that copyprotection work ?

Windows error messages are not intelligent.
that message in that situation indicates that the connection between the Scope software and the XITE was interrupted. it's not from a bug. if it happens when turning other devices on, the wiring in the building is probably not optimal.

Fortunately I don't have problems with static electricity, but thanks for pointing it out!

For a week now I've been running the XITE with a different power supply and I haven't seen any "copy protection error's". My best guess is a kinda dodgy connecter on the power supply I've been using for years. Maybe I wont have to send my XITE to Germany after all :)

Unfortunately my XITE started to act up again with the other powersupply. Loosing power for no apparent reason. I guess it is an internal problem after all :(

Well, the whole unit loses power for a while, so I don't see how this should be HDMI-cable related.

Hello
With my config, this kind of messages are related to hdmi connection.

Heat? I've got my replacement pwr supply directly on top of a fan pointed upwards under my Xite. It stays warm but not hot.
