no i mean a database that can be filtered. Like if you could filter the threads of the "device" by device type (effect, synth or else). It can be done easily in wordpress with user uploads and front end post editing. Then people can post comments/rate and there can be cross posting between the posts and a forum. But there is a yearly cost of around 99/120 € for yearly plugin licenses, as you need several WP plugins.

Kidding. And yes I understood about the filtered database, this is what a github would be. However what I was thinking of was a system that accounted for versioning.

At one point when John Cooper still ran the board, the downloads section was modified to be much more advanced. But these addons tend to fall into disrepair or not keep up with major phpbb updates, and so he had to reverse the changes (which also broke old links), and if memory serves the forums went through this not once but twice (which is why the old links are broken in more ways than one, how depends on the age of the post or upload).

Moving beyond that....well I'm open to anyone else that wants to build something for our community.

I can do something like that in Wordpress in no time, including a front end submission/upload form. I became good at that this year

The interest is that it is filterable.

But it requires 3 licences of 3 different wordpress plugins for about 110 euros per year in total. I do not have extra licenses to give away right now unfortunately. May be later this year, I would be happy to do it. Otherwise, get in touch with me if you want to know all that you need.

I know how to do wordpress, CMS's are fairly simple compared to writing your own, and much easier to maintain. Even still, the biggest limitation for me atm is time, which is why modding phpbb is an issue. It can be done, I could do the joomla frontend as well (there's plugins for most CMS's that do similar things). The issue is that when things change and plugins aren't supported or the codebase changes in a way that causes issues, then u have a timesink or you have to drop compatibility with where you've been (hence my reference to this forum prior to phpbb 3, which is the version that broke what J.C. had implemented).

Btw I pay about that much per month for our webserver (but that includes an offsite backup and quite a few licenses for various things that improve SEO & such), but of course it houses a few other people. Used to be more people on this box, but times change...

tune by ear is the best, but after rock with the hurricane, read tinnitus, perhaps you need more optics...
