Write-behind caching must not be activated in a real time recording environment.
that's what creamware says in manual! is that mean that we must set "disable write-behind caching for all drives" or not?!
this is little hard to understand for me because of my english gram!
so, do we must disable write-behind caching... or enable!?
thanks,
sandro
ps. i know it's little stupid but i don't know what to set, and i can hear any diference when i working!?

Is "write behind cache" the same as "write cache"?

I am on Win2k PRO and in my drive properties I see only 1 option to enable or disable: "write cache"

yes, same thing, you do not want it to cache, cuz your probably streaming while recording audio track. You want it writen as you play...

ok good. I had it on "enable" until I saw this thread. It is disabled now so it should work even better.

I use Win2K pro too.
I have 4 SCSI drives.
1 is system and 3 for audio.
I used yo work when "write cache" is enable and it all worked fine.
I disabled it know and wait to see if there is a different.
I found also that I can enable or disable "read cache".
What should rhis option be?

I'm on WIN98SE and I found the 'disable write behind for all drives' option.
Does anyone know if it's possible to disable it only for one drive or one IDE-bus?

No, that will most likely be all drives or none (W98SE is not that sofisticated  ).

If you have data on your disk(s) that you want to access different (with write-behind or without), one solution could be to run two installations of W98SE in a dual boot configuration. This will give you choice, but still; all drives or none AFAIK.

Cheers

Hi mates.
I've disabled the cache under w2k uncheckin
the dots from device panel, but after a reboot the the dots are re-checked...why?
There's a way to disable permanently the write behind cache under w2k or i must uncheck this option every time i boot my pc?
See ya!
