What are your thoughts on the PULSAR XTC soundcard?
Is it worth the money?
Or should someone head in another direction if they want a full body'd studio built into their computer?

If your sequencer is cubase, Pulsar XTC could be an option. The synths are very good. The effects are quite nice too, not as amazing as the waves ones, or apparently UAD-1 (don't know, never heard these), but surely a whole lot better than the ones that come with cubase. The card has (of course) its own latency which does not get automatically compensated by cubase, but there are insert modules that do this. Apparently, soon there will be a cubase version that compensates the latencies of XTC and other cards. We'll see. Pulsar XTC has a big problem, though: if you are using another CW card, in particular Luna/PS/Elektra, the whole IOs and ASIO drivers of both cards do not really get on smoothly with each other and one permanently has to sort out workarounds for this. For instance, people having Luna with IO box are experiencing massive problems, cause XTC does not load the z-link modules properly. Owners of Pulsar2 solve this problem by editing the XTC background project. Owners of XTC can't solve it, cause they don't have a project editor that would be able to edit the XTC background project. Another problem is that the combination of XTC with the new Luna software (3.01) does not really give you the choice between both modes, as the old Luna software (2.05) did. Per default, XTC mode will (try to) run. Even if the Luna software is launched, XTC mode tries to start with cubase and, of course, crashes. The workaround is to edit in XTC cset.ini each time before you start cubase:
[asio]
XTCmode=0
if you want Luna, and
[asio]
XTCmode=1
if you want XTC mode.
Resuming, if CW sorts out all these bugs, XTC will be a very nice option as an extension for cubase.

Ok, what about the use of the XTC along with LOGIC Platinum, rather then CUBASE...

To record it you have to use the so called "merge" IOs. Works without problems.
