A question for Soundcloud Experts

I posted a couple of older tracks to soundcloud yesterday and before the 2nd one was uploaded, the first one had been reposted.
Now, this is the first time any of my tracks have been reposted (understandably if you listen to them ) and I'm just wondering what it's all about.
In my honest opinion, those involved didn't have time to listen to it, like it and decide to repost. It seems as if it was "hoovered up" by some routine that grabs the tag.
In fact I deleted it at first, in a bit of a panic, then uploaded it again - same result.
I don't mind, so long as I'm not at risk of viral attacks etc, and it is posted as public and downloadable.

Just wondering what your take is on reposting, particularly, as I say, as if it's been "hoovered up".

I think soudcloud is like other full of people sites, victim of strange people behavior.

I've seen 'strange' user reposting hundreds of tracks like robots which repost any new released track. For sure they didn't listen to the music as they repost 50 track in one single minute ! Why ? I don't know ! I don't get which interest or benefit they could get by doing this.

I even had some spam pm for some nice young girl ready to answer to any intimate proposal, or even buying (!!!) a web bot which adds for you 'friends', increase the number of track you are supposed to have listened for increasing your 'play' number ! It's incredible !

I think you can 'block' any users under his profile description.

I prefer posting music to Youtube. It's not the intention of Youtube but everyone does it. You can use Microsoft Moviemaker (free download) or whatever the hell Apple has (probably). I find that Soundcloud is bad at blocking spam and I do not like their ridiculous limitation on size.

Thanks to both of you for your replies, especially JoPo in this case. I think that answers my concerns. However, if you are still in touch with this young lady who offers anything...... well, I could be interested
it's a balance though of blocking these people and getting your music to a wider audience. Need to monitor it and think about it.

Braincell, thanks for your idea too, although I only have time to write so much per year (if it's not raining I'm outside on the bike or whatever) so using my PhotoDirector software & uploading to YOUtUbe may take up more time.
I'm thinking.

BTW Braincell - I have a massive amount of respect for what you bring to this Planet Z in terms of Cubase observations - your posts have been very helpful to me.

What size limitation ? I thought their limitation was total of track durations, not size - I upload >100GB 96KHZ wav files no problem.

I wouldn't worry about it - if it gets reposted then more might listen to your track. The track play stats are pretty useless anyway because it counts as a play if someone listens to the first 10 seconds and decides not to listen to the rest of it. So the comment feature is the most useful, especially as you can comment on the timeline - e.g. 'that was a great lead break' etc. Soundcloud is more of a convenience to upload to an intended audience or just linking to tracks from your own website, and of course to provide feedback on others tracks.

I think by reposting, little wanna be record labels and such also get a little more visibility for themselves...ahh, social networking at it's finest. There's also (what I think is) a healthy culture of I'll share yours, you share mine....like word of mouth. Not that the "middle men" are listening, but it does end up distributing your music to more people than you would have alone, with the idea that you'll do the same for them. I don't use my real name or info for sites like this, so I don't get much in the way of spam or other strange requests (other than SOundCloud sending me an email for some DJ paying for a release to a larger audience)

I didn't know the Soundcloud limitation was on length, only that it could not upload my files. That is a huge disadvantage for me as I don't do pop music.

Souncloud can't upload your file because you don't do pop music ?? There is something I miss, I guess.
You can upload what ever music you like on soundcloud. It's not only for pop music, you may find any kind of music : free jazz, classic, tekno, metal, hip hop, Balkan brass, etc ... Why Souncloud could not upload your files ?

That's right : limitation is not the file weight but its time length. You can upload 32bit 96khz wav file and let them be downloadable without any data compression but I think the listening tracks are compressed buy soundcloud, it's comprehensible for flowing listening.

The interest is to meet people who like same music as you and then make some music with people arround the world. I had already 2 experiences like that and I found it very enriching.

I think the standard account allows you 3 hours of upload space with 2Mb per track picture.
There are all genres of music on it Braincell, even JoPo's wonderful stuff

You got a 3 hour symphony ? Awesome that puts Holst's Planets to shame - or have you done an arrangement of Herr Wagner's Ring Cycle ?

If "length" is an issue, the DJ's may have actually created a big enough problem we can all profit from.

mixcloud.com is a free service (like soundcloud), but allows you to upload much longer streams...for mixes, jam sessions, or your own live shows.
