Hi all,
I was looking for a bit of advice…
I have a Yamaha O1V96 digital mixer, but I prefer the sound of the Scope mixers – along with the flexibility of routing etc.

As a result I would like to use the O1V96 as a 32 channel midi controller for mixing a 32 channel Xite-1 Scope Mixer.

The problem is that I need more than 128 CC values!
32*(Fader, Pan, Solo, Mute, EQ, Aux send, Buss fader etc )

I can’t find a working 32 channel mixer for Xite that allows the mixer to Send and Receive on more than one Midi channel. (The O1V96 can receive CC’s on multiple Midi channels per single set up).
I can find 16 channel mixers that do this, or 32 channel mixers that don’t , or 32 channel mixers that do it only with Scope cards but not with Xite-1.

CW Mix 32 looks a great candidate – but again is single Midi channel only (I believe – unless I have misread the documentation – any chance the developer could easily add multi channel support?).

Is my only option to load two sixteen channel mixers assigned to separate Midi Channels and then sum them somehow before mastering (not ideal but at least a work around).

Any help and advice/guidance would be most appreciated.

I think SpaceF and Wolf have mixers supporting multichannel MIDI, maybe the SpaceF Modular Mixer ?

I don't think Spacef have a 32 channel mixer and Wolf is not Xite compatible - but thanks for the speedy response

probably.

personally, i don't find most control surfaces that useful for mixing. most of the time, i am doing things that require me to touch one knob. for this, the mouse is super fast. of course, it doesn't LOOK as cool, but it works well. when i am doing things in mixes(as a performance) that require me to touch more than one thing at a time, or many things in rapid succession, then i map ccs to a controller and have control of those specific knobs, switches or faders. many more than 16 things to take care of in realtime, is probably more than i can manage efficiently. 127 controllers is plenty for me.

ProTools HD dsp systems have a dedicated hardware controller, which is super cool, but by the time you buy everything needed to make this work, it's like $100,000. for much less, you can work something out with Scope.

one thing you could do is use multiple smaller mixers. this might get messy, but...

someone could probably help you via the SDK, or you could use the SDK to make a mixer like you want. if it costs you a few thousand dollars to have someone make one, it would still be stupidly dirt cheap compared to PTHD.

there are plans to improve Scope automation, maybe even with osc compatibility, and the SDK has mackie protocol modules, also SonicCore has been working with the Copperlan guys, so anything is possible in the future.

Thanks garb - all your comments are well taken, but for me - having a Yamaha O1V96 lying idle makes me want to use it as a mega controller.
I am a one man show, composing, singing, arranging, and producing, my own songs, one track at a time - harmonies often get to 16 levels deep and having motorised faders managed by 2 hands with automation is a help - and keeping eyes down on the Yamaha when tracking gives me focus

I think two 16 track mixers in Xite giving me 256 cc's will do as a work around .....

As a man with an expensive hoby and a day job I don't get enough time to do music let alone get into SDK work so I will just rely on the lap of the gods and planet z instead.

By the way - I am planning on networking a Mac (stand alone Komplete Ultimate with Lightpipe ADAT interface) with a PC (Xite Scope) using Copper Lan - are their any short comings and do you know if they are planning Audio over Ethernet any time soon at Copper Lan?
