Hello,
My next project is to mount a PC rack for my scope cards (luna + pulsar) and I want to know if a 2U is enough or must I expected a 3U for the differents cards ?
Thanks
Baba

i have 4u as the cards are large if you go 2u you will need raiser cards this puts the cards on there sides
3u is tight but cards are standard fitting way i have floating fans above my 36 dsp machine which would be impossible to fit in a 3u machine
my donar machine was a xw6xxxx server and the case cost me £50 new of of ebay

Could you give a picture or some precisions about that ?
Yes I think 3U is preferable so I have only 9 DSP
no need of a wind turbine to freeze the PC !

you will need to test as the link cables on a 3u can be tight
i dont have a 3u but a 4u so but can take photo of the 4u

I have a 3U and a 4U case. In the 3U case only cards with 3 DSPs can be linked with STDM cables. The 4/6/14/15 DSP cards are slightly taller and can not be linked. The can work alone, though. If fan noise is an issue, a 4U case will also give you better options for low noise cooling.

I don't understand a luna 3 DSP with a pulsar 6 DSP there are only 2 STDM cables which have the same size
could you provide pictures please of a 3 U unit the inside ?
Thanks
I want a complete PC not only the scope cards in the 3U rack. It's not just for PCI slots.

The 4/6/14/15 DSP cards are taller than the 3 DSP cards. When the STDM cable is added, the 4/6/14/15 DSP cards become too tall for my 3U case.

because some 3 space cases aren't tall enough. i've used 3 space cases, but 4 space cases are better. also, some cases are laid out so that a full length pci card like a 14dsp Scope card won't fit. sometimes drive cages can be removed to make room. otherwise, the only cases that fit the big cards are very long. i've only seen a few short cases that will work. measure and observe carefully.

Yes I can see but I don't see the connection with the STDM cables ...

because the stdm cables fit on the cards and make the height taller and on most 3u cases you cant fit the lid
and why you are being told to test the case before purchase as most places wont allow you to return the case once you have fitted cards
and wont except them back just because your cards with stdm cables wont fit
we are trying to save you time and money a 3u case is no difference in cost to a 4u case
and a 4u case has more room for extra drives and better cooling so that you can fit large coolers with out noisy fans on my 4u i have 2 very big passive coolers and then i have 3 floating fans 1 above the pci cards and 1 above each passive cooler

Yes thank you for your help.
Sorry I don't understand just one thing (ok I know 4U will be better but I try to save 1U in my rack

)
I don't undestand why a 3DSP card is ok with a 3U because the STDM cable is at the same high than for a 6DSP card you know ?
I know for the length of the cards but the height (3 or 6) are the same no ? maybe I'm not clear sorry for my english ...
