I have an Akai S2000 which performs really well but is a bit fiddly and also I have to use floppies which is a pain. In anyone's personal experience, are there any reason why I shouldn't sell it and get the STS-3000, I mean in performance terms. I don't rely heavily on a sampler in my music, just for occasional snips of sounds/vocals or drum loops.
Thanks

If you are just playing samples I would stay with the sample player. I have an STS-4000 and hardly ever use it because I rarely edit samples.

You could also install a SCSI controller in your computer and work with Mesa II. This is a free program (
www.akaipro.com/downloads.html ) that you can use to import/export programs and samples from/to the S2000 through SCSI. Then you can save these files on your computer, so no more floppy disks.

My AKAI S.3000XL sounds much more punchy and clear than my STS 4000 ín spinte of the fact that it is 24 bits with digital signal paths;so I´m, not going to sell it.
