Hope someone can help with this.

I've got an XITE connected to two A16 Ultras; one via Z-Link and one via ADAT. XITE was set as wordclock master and all was generally good.

For some reason now I'm having issues with both A16's locking on to XITE-1.

Scope is set as master in Samplerate settings @ 44.1 and with one A16 via Z-LINK plugged in (both A&B for 16 in/out) I can see the Z-LINK A/B are visibly detected as sync sources (red neon on on the Samplerate settings). On the A16 if I set the sync to Z-LINK the LED stays on red and no sample rate is detected. Likewise if I set XITE to slave and A16 as master at 44.1 Scope doesn't detect a samplerate to lock on to.

With the ADAT connected A16 I get pretty much the same thing. The only difference being that with ADAT A/B plugged in Scope doesn't seem to see the device even as a slave source i.e. the red neons on the samplerate settings dont light up).

Not sure what to do - could the digital I/O on my XITE be the problem and does anyone have any further troubleshooting tips before I send it all of to Germany!

did you set the A16 to slave from z-link or ADAT depending on which connector is used to connect it?

Each respective A16 is set to the relevant sync source. i.e. I've pressed the push button until the LED lights up. It's been a while since I looked but I recall (and correct me if I'm wrong) that once the correct source is selected (and a wordclock signal is detected on Z-Link) then the LED should go green and the frequency LED light up at the correct wordclock frequency?

that sounds right. if they are connected properly and the modules are present, everything kinda has to work.
you have each output of the XITE connected to the input of each A16, right? it's pretty easy to mix in and outputs with ADAT, but pretty much impossible with z-link...

when you look in the Scope samplerate window, you should see an led lit by the ADAT and Z-Link listings.

it must work. it is jighly unlikely that both ADAT and Z-Link are broken or that both A16s were broken. there must be something obvious that's been overlooked.

That's what I thought - it was all rather simple when I first rigged it up.

Should each device always have light emitted from the ADAT out ports at all time?

I'm going to rip everything out of the rack tomorrow night so that I can isolate the XITE/A16's and see where I get to.

i had problem with sync last week and found it was because the a16 was really too hot (it was installed on top of a preamp).
Since i've moved it, the problem has disapeared...if it can help !

I'm going to rip it all out of the rack so maybe getting away from other heat sources might have an impact.

well, if Scope is master, the card's output will show the light. the A16 won't have light out it's output until it locks to the master. inputs never have a light.

of course, i was referring to the virtual led in the Scope samplerate window.

I was referring to the physical output of light from ADAT out ports. Should these always be 'on' when XITE/A16 units are powered up? If so it just allows me to detect a physical issue with any of the units.

if the unit is master, then, yes.
if the unit is slave then i wouldn't expect to see the light until it had locked to the master clock.

Appears that one of the A16's has a broken digital I/O. Other one sync's fine on both ADAT and ZLINK.

Pour some grappa on it?

Just joking...but you should try to spray some pressurized canned air into the ADAT ports, to ensure there is no dust disturbing transmit or receive.

Neither ADAT nor ZLINK work on the unit...
