Should I try to run Pulsar II inside a PCI expansion chassis alongside pro tools hardware with my Mac (assuming this works- has anyone actually tried it?) or go with a standalone PC and use ADAT interfacing into PT? I mainly want to use the synths, processing and STS-5000.
There are obvious advantages to both, e.g. the Mac setup would be less hardware and all on one machine, vs. the PC where I could treat it as a standalone processor/sound source (thereby putting less load on my Mac) and also run other PC apps like gigasampler etc..
Any opinions/advice appreciated.

The Pulsar/Scope is great concept for audio-recording apps, whether using Mac or PC. It shouldn't be hurt when you try the standalone first then determine the needs.

Ideally, it is DSP-based-system, it wouldn't tax much to your current system's resource. It really be depended that what you try to do, and whether dedicated or not also has a trade-off. When you really wanted good sampler for best-acoustic-sounding, the Gigasampler/studio is a right solution then you will need the additional PC, otherwise you don't need it.

Summary: Try pulsar II with your MAC system!
