What macos revision are you running? on PC, this is usually due to a corrupted ASPI layer.

mac OS v8.6 I think - does MAC need ASPI layer as well - ie the ADAPTEC ASPI driver.
man i'm a little pissed as Creamware will not respond and i've outlayed money for the sts-4000 and cannot use it. your help would be much appreciated. thankyou - someone told me that i need Osmosis from the MAc download
page but the only OSmosis i could find was by an Akai converter by Bitheadz. i dont need a converter but the ability to see the AKAI programs with STS4000 or even in the Pulsar window browser.

Do this: go to the "extension manager" and duplicate whatever extension sets you may be running. Then switch to full macOs extensions, there is one there by default, a friend of mine fucked up and I solved that problem doing that. I hope I'm not too basic, but sometimes basic does the trick  let me know if it worked!

Ciao.

thanks but i'm not sure how to do that as i'm a MAC novice. i was also told to do the following, would this be the same thing?
"What you may need to do is disable the Apple CD/DVD Driver Extension. When I stick an Akai in I get that annoying initialization message.. When I load Spark I can use them though since it somehow bypasses the driver.. "

just a guess here but does the akai cd rom also have an audio track on it ?
if so this could be the problem... ive had that in the past with a friends cd rom...

And there is one more thing (perhaps this one will solve your problem?) - after (and before, just during the whole proccess) placing an akai cd-rom to the cd-rom/dvd-rom or whatever drive the Pulsar/Luna app should be the active one (ie. pulsar, luna logo should be seen in the upper/right corner of your screen) other way mac os will take control over the akai cd and will try to initialize it.

To enable/disable extensions or control panels you should do to the apple menu, choose control panels, choose extensions manager and you'l find enable/disable squares. To load 'MAC OS base' or "MAC OS all' set you'll have to choose it in the upper/left part of ExMen window.

ok thanks heaps guys- the main problem was that i didn't press the 'mac button' and the 'mouse button' to reveal the 'show akai partitions' menu - on PC you just right click to get this. the last tip also is of great help as sometimes it would not see the CD - so thanks again to everyone and remember to get that 'hidden' options menu box up in th epulsar 'explorer' peace

You mean 'apple button', don't you? I suggest you better buy a 2 button mouse (and even with a scrolling wheel), they are cheap these days - for example Logitech ones (I use one successfuly, designed to be used with a PC but with Mac drivers), It's pretty useful and comfortable not to push 'control' button if you want to access the mac's or Pulsar's contextual menus. Now I can't imagine using ol' one button mouse, even if 2 button one may seem for some mac fans too windoze style
