I posted a previous topic (in this subforum) and thus managed to get the system working on XP but I haven't as of yet done any testing with Cubase.

I believe I will need a combining cable in order to use more than one card simultaneously, however.

Anyway, am I better off putting them in separate systems and just using the Steinberg System Link instead, since I am planning on getting v5 at some point in the future and it appears these cards last almost and forever, so I guess it won't deteriorate just sitting in my rig while I use (an)other manufacturers' card.

yes, you need a socalled card edge connector.
You could easily make one yourself from regular parts from the electronica shop or internetshop.
