Okay I have iLok2 but I understand if any one is pissed about having to buy it. Yamaha/Steinerg owns iLok!
Secondly not being able to use old plugins is a major bummer. They do cause instability so I kind of understand why they no longer permit them. It's a very Apple-ish thing to do.

They dont own Ilok they own Syncrosoft.
Ilok or Pace..is such a crappy company.Glad more and more companies moving away from it....
Ilok works but the fees and the dumb Policies are fucking annoying sometimes.

Wow they own Syncrosoft yet they use iLok?
That is confusing especially since I use both.

What? They use syncrosoft for the host aka cubase.
If you have Plugins that require ilok you obviously need that too or cubase wont open them.Thats the same for all major daw´s.
Pt is using Ilok also for the Host.
There is also a Codemeter Dongle for ssl plugs etc.

Steinberg software only uses eLicencer (Syncrosoft) for copy protection.
It depends on your 3rd party software if it uses iLok or not.

I see. They are just saying all iLok plugin users will have to get a new dongle. Annoying for them!

wasn't it a while ago that a bunch of people were buying iLok software, and then using it by 'alternative' means just to do away with iLok? I'm not even sure if technically that's wrong to do, since you own the license anyway.. how does that work out? I guess it goes against the "not modifying" part?

I would be rather wary of viruses in them. I never use them.
They clarified the iLok issue to be only for some plugins which require iLok so you may or may not have to buy a new iLok.
