Technics WSA1 - Organic Pad

Hello,

I was playing yesterday with my WSA1, animated the pad sound in realtime. There is some eventide eclipse reverb here as well, and some applied EQ from a Soundcraft 600 channelstrip.

The patch is created by me..

I find the synth engine in the WSA to be so weird compared to what else that is out there.. but its such a great synth for pads, textures and altered versions of "real" instruments. Its analouge sounding department is not particulary great due to the inbalance of bass/treble and the filter which is very digital sounding. However its still a magic tool!

Sounds fine to me.
A tool can excell at certain things, and with the list of tools you have mentioned on your site, I
I'd say you have it covered pretty good.

But someday when you are feeling lucky search ebay with a 6 month search, for an old SE-1.
They are usually cheap in comparison to the newer SE-1X but can be upgraded, which might not even be necessary for some guys.
But it is a very powerful Subtractive Mono synth and no software of DSP based hardware can emulate it's sonic character, but using it for leads and Bass is a great addition even if all other synths are software.
I find that pads are generally used in the midrange where they are at their best.
They usually fall to pieces in the low and upper registers, but having an SE-1 will cover that, and only make your other synths, Native or DSP based, sound that much better.

Nice Job though, never played a WSA-1. It's good having something that is niche.

it's a simple yet highly effective trick to feed some basically crappy sound through a good reverb ...
I know it from my Casio Digital Horn (DH200) in it's native mode. :D
definitely usable sound if slightly cutting through capabilities are needed.

cheers, Tom

I was heavily considering the se-1. But i needed a more all round synth.
So I got a kurzweil pc3k6, and wow .. What a great piece! Now!! Next synth is a se1 :p
