Anyone try out the Beta? Looks quite impressive! Any chance we can petition the parsec developers to orient themselves in this direction? Do you think it could work with scope? Imagine a 3D grid of Modulars & Solarises

For real info hit the site http://www.audiogl.com/en/ but I would suggest rather to drop some acid and check out the youtube videos on the AudioGL channel :D (</joke>) here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-RCzeJQazA

is it enough to put a couple of buzzwords on a webpage to make people go nuts ?

the only thing that impressed me is the amount of cash asked for a handful of ideas 'borrowed' from a freeware synth (SunVox) for an unfinished product.
Let alone the helpless effort to a add '3d Bliss' to a completely messed GUI.
Modular and 3d THAT way ???
did you ever look at some of the more ambitious modular patches ? pleeeease... :o

sorry for the rant, but I had this installed today and wiped it off half an hour later
... maybe I'm still a bit under the impression of a software I've just seen at Frankfurt Book Fair
which was 3d the very(!) smart way...
not targeted towards music in the first place (of course), but didn't exclude it from a technical perspective either.

cheers, Tom

damn, I was thinking, by the title, about a synth based on GPU openGL...

Thanks for the tip on SunVox, looks really nice actually! I'm not too quick to bash the developer and his intentions and/or methods. I respect the idea of someone trying to do something different, even though I myself am sceptic on whether humans can think in 3D when composing music. Cheers ;)

Pitch x Duration x Timbre ?

that's not my quote, but never mind... I believe in the same :D
you can use such tools to control (or draw) sound via 3 axis, but that's an analogy - or synaesthethism (?)

as a challenge to what you CAN control and what you're ABLE TO keep in mind check out the TC11 app on the ipad
it's THE most sick and unbeaten collection of controllers applicable to a synth engine
tracking the movement of as many fingers as fit on the surface.

here is a part of the list, it's about 40 position/time relative controllers, each assignable to any controllable part of the synth engine.

cheers, Tom

it's a cool concept.

I checked out the video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-RCzeJQazA
I guess it looks cool and all, but I find it kind of troubling that the demo for a new paradigm ends up being plain doof doof piece you can do perfectly fine in a traditional sequencer.. Which hints that whatever the new stuff is, it doesn't make you (enable you) to start writing in drastically different ways. It does look cool though, and makes for an awesome screensaver.

This one's a bit more informative
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJbHcuZU ... creen&NR=1
ehhhh.. this is more like programmer interface. Kind of like max/msp. I'm totally not a fan of keeping low level modules exposed.. I guess the point is that all the pieces are exposed, and you can send automation to any module. But man, that'll get messy really quick. At least in max/msp or pd instruments can be put inside a compact module.. The problem is that everything is super flat. Everything visible, accessible at all times. It could work with some more structure and implicit hierarchies of organization. Selecting a dozen modules speckled throughout say, 2000 modules, in 3d space is going to be tedious.

"To get a diverse range of musicians involved in the project, it is being sold as a paid Beta."
Who likes paying for beta software? Who likes using modular synths? In 3D? That's like a diverse group of 3 dudes.
