Wow, I like the fuga(sp?) style interaction between the two piano parts. Too bad the power of the 500MB sample isn't implemented in its full extent with mp3... But it sounds great as even in mp3. I would have liked some more hammering tones though..
Great piano playing... A little reverb would have been nice but on the other hand, your playing is more clearer without any effects.
The ending's great... the high 9th leaves a strong impression.
A bit generous with the sustain pedal though? Some leftover tones seem to be conflicting with what comes afterwards... well, maybe it's an effect.

I should also add that the way you expanded your motif is great.

Sounds great. I would add a tempo map. Perhaps a groove would help it sound less mechanical as well.

yeah, I was also wondering.. it sounded to me that you actually played it superbly on time.. but now that I think of it, is the song quantized? As far as I know, some people really do play mechanically on time..

Thanks for the review again, it really be good place to learn things like this. You guys have great inputs, hope that we can improve the performance in shortly.
The STS-4000/5000 is really limited, which is about 32-Voice polyphony for each MIDI channels. This song is required about more than 80 voice polyphony, we must used STS-4000 and STS-5000 at same time in the project with 2 scope boards (Realtime mixing, without audio sub-mixed). Just like to share more.
Best regards,
Long

Wow, that's quite a system you got there..
What's this for? I don't see why someone would invest in 2 scope boards just for personal pleasure.. What sort of project is this for?
Anyway, what other "dual" scope board projects are you working on?

Thanks, ken
We have many projects, which are provided audio tracks for video like TV/Karaoke/VCD/DVD and some of commercial. We usualy have about 32~64 tracks per projects. With two scope boards seem be not quite enough yet!
BTW, we try the piano tracks on the STS's samplers just for fun, we mainly used the GigaStudio, it would be much better.

I have the STS 4000 and I'm using the STS 2000 because it uses less DSP. Use several of them and you can have all the polyphony you need. I have one STS 2000 playing a 111 meg piano sample. It's divided up because the AKAI CD I got them from is for the AKAI S1000 which limits you to 32 megs per bank, so I have 4 banks all on the same midi channel. I plan to add more STS 2000 as needed. To edit patches I use the STS 4000 and save the patch then put it back into the STS 2000 again.

Correction. I meant 111 megs of samples. I bought the Prosonous Stienway Piano. I was disapointed that all the samples are 22 KHZ. It's 111 megs because they are long samples (no loops), stereo and there is one level of velocity switching. I would have prefered it to be in mono and 44.1 KHZ sample rate but I was not able to find much information on that disk on the net before I bought it. In any event it sounds nice.

Try this, it is free in gigasample format (not sure about akai), it's not bad at all.

Then you will need the translator program like Awave-Studio V8.0
Good luck,

Beautiful, just beautiful, thanks for sharing this LHong, it shows how you can use the STS's to the max, with HUGE same sets. The playing on here is really excellent, as are the samples. More please

Beautiful playing!
Thanks for the link. It opened up a huge library of other links to get all kinds of samples.
Any more piano music coming our way?

Wow, sounds fantastic - great playing and very realistic Piano sound.
Anyone tried 'The Grand' from Wizoo/Steinberg yet?
Looks very interesting - because its modelled you get sympathetic string resonance, etc. MP3 examples are impressive.
Check out
http://www.wizoo.com for details.

braincell,
Make sure that you'll be able to get/control fully dimensional piano-sample, where Velocities and sustains are being expressed dynamically as needed.

For thoses of you who downloaded the Pianos from the above link and did not succeed in uncompressing the .sfARK files, I found a site where they explained that Netscape corrupts the download.
So use Internet Explorer. It works!!

Yes the velocity switching is working. With a fast computer and the latest Pulsar software, the Pulsar sample players are finally as fast and reliable as hardware... provided you don't add one to many modules DOH!

Impressive... It sounds pretty realistic. Somehow, I find that the attacks are sometimes too uniform. Maybe you can find the right setting to reduce the attack (and the brillance) as the velocity decreases. The margin is very small, but when you find the right settings, it adds the little touch which makes all the difference...
How can you have 80 notes of polyphony on this music? Can you explain?
Good work anyhow!
