Hello!
I have the chance to buy a Fender Rhodes MK2 in good condition.
It's the plastic key version.
Since I'm not very familiar with those instruments, is there anything I should
check before buying it? Any common 'weak' points?
I would be thankful for any hint!!
What are common prices?
Cheers

Jan

With the time keys tend to become uneven with each other, if it is the case, you will need for someone to perform a professional setup. Then you should check for the volume of each note too, for the same reason as it happens pretty much the same, the mechanism that reproduces the amplification may eventually move need a setup.
I had one myself, wonderful instrument; it is such an especial feeling to play it. No emulation has ever given me the “feeling”, perhaps the sound, I can say yes, but not as pure neither.
Oh, yes, I forgot to say that it was the Gino Vanelli's brother Fender Rodhes that was used to record one of their albums. Cool! Anyway, you know, they may have told it to me just to sell it... Anyway, its sound was terrific!

I can't believe I huffed one of those and the CS80 actually had a wooden ramp-style holder that set it on top.
The RHodes was strong, never buckled.
It's going to sound so much better thatn the sample ones when you start spanking or stroking it.
Regular in the middle sounds are all we ever hear sampled, the real ones stand out of the crowd in any Mix
Congrats.

What I most like about the Rhodes is that you can play any funny chord without being worry for it to sound bad..., it's astounding the blending perfection and quality of its tones played together. See that? I mean, you play a heavy chord with some instruments or even an acoustic piano, except big Steinway which are perfect melting tones, and they may sound pretty horrible, but with a Rhodes it sounds even and perfect.
The only disadvantage I can see is that, if you play live with a band, it is like carrying a dead body with coffin and all in your back, I remember I would never move it myself alone, I would always need the help of another strong man to carry it, otherwise you would injure yourself.

When you arrived to the scenario, you would need to take off part of your cloth to regain your breath and then rest for a while before start playing,

which also it is pretty bad for a pianist hands.
As an element for your studio, it is priceless, as element for a moving band, if you don’t have people to carry it for you; it becomes a heavy duty daily task.
