PowerSampler: Missing MIDI device, STS3000 crashes Scope

Dear all,
Well, I received my first Creamware card yesterday - the PowerSampler.
With the card I received the Akai sample CD, and a hand-made CD containing Scope 4.0, along with the manual.
I did what I could in terms of installing Scope, and used the Luna3 drivers from Sonic Core's FTP site.
The installation went fine, and the ASIO works well - playing with my host and the STM1632 mixer with some plugins was a pretty cool start!
However, I'd really like to try the PowerSampler configuration, but I have the following problems:
* Loading Scope generates an error that the "DSP file Sync to MIDI" isn't found. I've read some forum responses on this, and it looks like the copy of Scope I have on the CD is the same as the one on the website, so that file isn't there at all (unless I'm looking in the wrong place...)
* Attempting to load the ST3000 sampler causes Scope to close without notification, which I assume is Scope crashing
Is there a guide on how to get started, apart from the manual? Is the Sync to MIDI DSP file available anywhere?
This version of Windows has possibly been tweaked, so are there any services that must run in order for everything to work correctly?
Thanks in advance for your help! If there are any forums that have already addressed these problems, please let me know!
Kind Regards,
unaHm

Hi !
You should tell us your computer config...
Powersampler is a 3 dsp card, isn't it ?

That's correct, it's the 3DSP card.
My machine is an AMD Athlon X2 5200+ running on an ASUS M2N68-AM SE 2 motherboard, 2GB of DDR2.
Windows XP 32-bit.
The driver version (in device manager) for the "Creamware DSP-Board" is 1.50.10.0, Scope v4.0
I hope that helps a little, and thanks for taking the time to respond!
Kind Regards,

it's got nothing to do with drivers.
the "missing" file is in Scope\app\dsp. the problem is that it's almost certainly marked "read only". this is an error from the windows installer that happens sometimes. with Scope closed, right click on the file and choose "properties". uncheck "read only" and save. when you restart Scope it should work.
the crash is probably from a shared irq. the Scope card is a realtime instrument. it can't wait for access to shared resources. you're going to have to disable some devices that are unneeded, most likely a usb controller or two(you have at least 6 available). go to start\programs\accessories\system tools\system information\hardware resources\conflicts/sharing and tell me what, if anything is sharing an irq with the Scope card. a screenshot is even better....

Thanks for stepping in again Gary!
Well, I've found the problem with the IRQ being shared - both it and the VIDEO CARD are using IRQ 18! Is there a way of forcing the IRQs to be different? I'll also do a search on that topic.
The USB devices are fine, their controllers are on 21 and 23.
The Read Only flag seems to be resetting itself, so I'll have to probably play with permissions in regards to that.
Unfortunately I've got to leave for a gig now, but I'll try and get it to work in a couple of hours!

the only way to fix that is to change slots, sorry... there may be services required for the sampler that are turned off, but i'm not sure which. it's for things like this that i usually don't recommend turning services off unless you know that they are absolutely unecessary. the amount of resources saved tweaking windows is usually pretty negligible in my experience.

That presents a bit of a problem, as I only have 1 PCIe 16x, and 1 PCI slot. Hmm...

I've found a less-than-ideal workaround for this board in terms of IRQ conflicts. I had to pull out the PCIe card, and enable the onboard video.
I have read that it's possible to change IRQ assignments with XP, but you have to disable ACPI in the BIOS and re-install a fresh version of Windows. I haven't tried it, but I may give it a go
I now receive this message in an Exception dialogue box: "undefined identifier NewPath".
I then receive this message in an Exception dialogue box: "undefined identifier recent".
After clicking OK, Scope disappears.
After making all of the files in Scope\App\dsp non-Read Only, I still get the Sync to MIDI problem. What file should I be specifically looking for, just in case it's somewhere else?
Thanks for the help on this! I'm not going to be using this motherboard for long, but I want to follow things through so that people who may use this board find a solution of some kind...hopefully!

it seems that there may be a bad installation.
i just reread your first post. you should have never used the Luna3 driver, by the time of v4 that was completely obsolete. update the driver to the one in v4 the install files. if you still have strange operation, download v4 from the S|C ftp and install over the top of the old install. when you install a downloaded version, do it from the desktop and you should avoid the "read only" issue.

Thanks for the response Gary!
Ok, so for everyone's benefit this problem has now been solved, thanks to the input of the people responding to this thread, plus the odd bit of information on the internet
Here's what I did (in order, aside from rebuilding the machine into a different case, but that's because the machine will eventually be my wife's):
* Re-installed graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce 8400 PCIe)
* Disabled anything ACPI in the BIOS (there are only two options for this board, again the ASUS M2N68-AM SE2)
* Re-installed Windows XP
* Downloaded the Scope 4.0 archive from the Sonic Core website, and extracted it to a folder on my Desktop
* Went to Computer Management -> Device Manager, found the Multimedia Controller that was missing a driver
> Right-click, and selected "Update driver", and went through the wizard steps, except that I specified the location to the driver:
> Scope40PC\Driver\Win2k
* Ran the setup program in the root directory of Scope40PC (after selecting all of the files in Scope40PC\App\dsp and making sure that the Read Only attribute wasn't checked), and installed the software as normal
I then loaded the "EZ Sampler" project, and it came up without any problems!
For anyone who's interested, the IRQ for the Luna is now 5, and the graphics card is 11. I can check further to see if there are any other conflicts, but so far I haven't seen anything untoward, which satisfies me!
My advice to anyone who's either waiting to receive, or just received an older Creamware / Sonic Core product is to ignore what the manual says, especially on older hardware, and start by installing the Scope software you have available. If any problems arise, I've found this forum to be far more up-to-date and informative
That's not to say anything bad about the manual, it's just that there has been time and personal experience on this forum which is invaluable as time (and operating systems) have progressed and matured.
Thanks again - I hope this thread and post are useful for people like me who are just starting out, and I hope I have something to show for it soon!
Kind Regards,
unaHm
