Displaying artwork with mp3 files

Having given up smoking 3 months ago, I found myself coming out of the dark ages with my Sony MP3 Player (years old) and treating myself to an iPod. Wow - a screen!

So I got to thinking - and tried to attach grafix to my own tracks and to purchased CD albums that I transferred to the iPod.

I've had quite a lot of success, basically using the Get Info/Artwork in iTunes software but some of the graphics jpgs don't display properly either in Windows Media Player or VLC Media Player.

I know that the artwork is there, so I have a suspicion that it is the physical measurement size of the jpg files.
For instance, some of the tracks only display, say, a quarter of the jpg.

I'm still looking into the problem, but if anyone has been there with this or can offer some tips, I'd be grateful.
And if anyone knows what that slider is for in Get Info that moves the jpg about......

Thanks

You can use mp3tag on windows to view & replace the id3 tag's image portion, then double check in iTunes. Alternatively if you pack releases into folders many players pick up on Folder.jpg placed in the same folder as the files to be played.

The slider selects between alternate artworks for the same track, I thought. You can have more than 1 image per track.

Thanks for the replies

I'll have a look at the mp3tag programme, but I'm quite happy with how the itunes software handles the tagging (good enough for me at present).
The folder tip is useful - I'll try that.

Thanks for the idea on the slider - I'll try that too.

It still doesn't sort out my main problem though in that some of the jpgs I use aren't displayed properly.
If I download some artwork from anywhere (an old album sleeve) - they tend to be okay.
Obviously those downloaded with an online purchase work fine.

The problem seems to be with jpgs I create from, say my own photos, or using a graphics package.
It's these that don't display properly. Often all that is displayed is the top left corner of the jpg. weird.
That's why I wondered if it was anything to do with the underlying measurement (width and height) of the photo.

I'm sure it'll get figured out. They all look okay in Itines and on the iPod, but it's when I use VLC or Windows media players on the same or other pc's.

Computers - hah - I think I'll sell up and buy a pair of cymbals :-)

My point was that mp3tag will create multiple resolutions of the photo 'tag', just as it will automatically create multiple tag fields supported by different apps when you fill out the basic artist-title-album etc info. You're essentially correct but if you just make a low res photo for compatibility's sake it will look crap in iTunes and other coverflow-style apps that support the higher resolutions.
